The Rundown: The Blue door pub, located in the Longfellow neighborhood of south Minneapolis is an almost exact remake of its sister bar in St Paul but with more room to breathe. The blue door is a great mixture of hip, all-wood, local pub feel with enough TVs around to please any sports fan that is part of your group. The bar itself has a very hipster feel to it, with a wait staff dressed in ragstock creations and armed with that quirky off the wall wit you would except to come with the attire. The tap list is a perfect tour of Minnesota’s staple craft beer breweries, offering some great local options. You can expect all the same normal bar food staples at the blue door, with the exception of their wings and burgers. The blue door specializes in what they refer to as a “Blucy” or basically a Juicy Lucy with a “B” in front of it, for the blue cheese they stuff it with. The burger itself is good, but anything stuffed with cheese is always a good idea. Their wings stood out to me the most, offering a wide variety of your not so ordinary sauce flavors, definitely worth checking out. The blue door is not the place you are going to go to pick up your next girlfriend, as the crowd is closer to their midlife crisis than their college graduation. That being said I would recommend the blue door as a date spot, especially if your date enjoys good beer at a cheap price. This place will make you look like you are tapped into the local bar scene and the happy hour alone makes it worth adding to your list of everyday bars.
