A Scandal in Bohemia was the first Sherlock Holmes story to be published in The Strand Magazine in 1891.
Sherlock Holmes is visited by a masked stranger, however Sherlock quickly discovers his client is Wilhelm Gottsreich Sigismond von Ormstein, Grand Duke of Cassel-Felstein, hereditary King of Bohemia. It so happens that the king is engaged to a young Scandinavian princess. However, there is some evidence from a previous liaison with a certain opera singer that might call off the wedding.
That opera singer is named Irene Adler. The King has tried to obtain certain pictures in her possession, ones that were sent to her during their relationship.
Sherlock Holmes is called upon to acquire the pictures and comes face to face with someone who is almost his equal. Irene Adler will also always hold a special place in his heart.
