There are movies that come along where the trailer tells you little to nothing about it and usually there is a good reason. These films usually offer something special that cannot be described, but instead just has to be seen. The latest, The One I Love from director Charlie McDowell and starring Mark Duplass, Elisabeth Moss, and Ted Danson leaves a lot a mystery in its trailer, but does it have the film to back up this decision?

The One I Love follows a couple on the brink of separation who escape to a beautiful vacation house for a weekend getaway in an attempt to save their marriage. What begins as a romantic and fun retreat soon becomes surreal, when an unexpected discovery forces the two to examine themselves, their relationship, and their future. This is an extremely hard movie to review as one of the things that makes this film work the best is knowing nothing when you go into it. This film takes a generic topic of relationship issues and gives it a twist that you have never seen before. Mark Duplass and Elisabeth Moss have great chemistry together and both deliver perfect performances that help to elevate this movie to another level. It is so refreshing to see someone take a simple idea and turn it on its head to create something so incredibly unexpected and engaging. The film is part romance, part sci-fi, part emotional and all brilliant.

There is just not enough to say about this movie without starting to possibly give something away and that would ruin the experience. In a world where everyone complains that there is nothing original out there, this is the sort of film that we have been waiting for. Don’t ask question just go and watch the film, you will be glad you did.
