A review of ‘Anonymous’ now out DVD/Blu-ray (SPOILER FREE)

I finally got to watch Roland Emmerich’s ‘Anonymous’ last night through Direct TV. When the film debuted last October it was sent out on a limited release and I didn’t live anywhere near a theater showing the political thriller staring ‘City of Bones’ star, Jamie Campbell Bower. The film is now available on DVD and Blu-ray for all Mortal Instruments fans to see and they should since Bower, as usual does not disappoint.

The film begs the question, “Was Shakespeare a fraud?” This question has often come up time after time and Emmerich does a fantastic job of taking on the controversial material. Though I did find the film difficult to follow at times, I loved the present and then flashback scenes with the Earl of Oxford. The brilliant Rhys Ifans plays the grown-up Earl of Oxford and Jamie Campbell Bower plays the younger Earl.

I did see some characterization traits by Bower that I feel will serve him well in his upcoming role of Jace Wayland in ‘City of Bones.’ First of there are some sword fighting scenes with the rising star. Yes, this is a different type of fighting then what he will be doing against demons and vampires in The Mortal Instruments franchise but he demonstrated a knack for onscreen fighting as he also did in ‘Camelot.’

Bower also played a passionate character. One who loves his art and in the end cares about his family. Jace isn’t really an artist but he is a very passionate character, which Bower played well in his role of Oxford.

Have you seen Jamie Campbell Bower in ‘Anonymous?’ What did you think of the film? Did you see any “Jace” like behavior from him?

For my review of ‘Anonymous,’ I give it a four star rating. I Jamie Campbell Bower a five for his performance.
