When you want the real Jersey Diner experience, head to The Jersey Diner in Dayton. After opening late last year to much anticipation, the wait appears to be well worth it. The staff are fun, likable and very quick. The decor isn't a typical diner feel but sure has plenty of comfy booths, tables and counter space. The diner is large in size and perfect to accommodate a party or occasion.
The coffee is delicious with strong, bold flavors sure to open even the most tired of eyes. The breakfast specials come with coffee and juice. That's something you don't see everywhere and surely a money saver. The breakfast is a real value. Mouthwatering blueberry pancakes that were so fluffy and light and large, a generous side of bacon and home fries for under $10. Talk about value!!
The omelettes are large, fluffy and stuffed with your choice of meats, cheeses or veggies. Chocolate chip pancakes are also highly recommended as the buttery, savory taste of gooey chocolate meets that pancake... It's well, it's so good it should be a sin.
The breakfast specials for two people cost less than $20. Where can you go and have a huge meal like that for that kinda price? Nowhere else in Jersey certainly... Also, breakfast is served all day long. Want a good dinner suggestion? Try their breakfast.
The lunch was a pleasure to sample. The lunch specials come with a soup or salad and a dessert. The chicken croquettes were fresh, moist, perfectly breaded and baked, topped with brown mushroom gravy. The two croquettes are served on top of whipped mashed potatoes and served with a vegetable. The chicken orzo soup was tasty with not too much salt and big pieces of chicken. The chocolate pudding was nicely portioned and topped with fresh whipped cream.
Another favorite lunch item... Burgers!
The burgers are huge, cooked to perfection. The bacon cheeseburger had a ton of crisp, smoked bacon, the meat was well seasoned and medium rare was truly cooked medium rare. The sides come with cole slaw and fries. The cole slaw isn't too tangy or bland, has a very nice mix of flavor. The plate was generous in size and for the price, again, you can't beat this value.
Overall, the Jersey Diner is a pleasant dining establishment with a very large and impressive menu with great prices and large portions. Of all of the diners I've had the privilege of dining in across this diner capital we call New Jersey over many, many, years... I call this one my favorite. Experience the Jersey Diner for yourself and you'll see why too.
I give the Jersey Diner 5 out of 5 bites for their consistently pleasing meals, the value of a big deal for a small cost, the staff going out of their way to rush you that cup of coffee or appetizer all done with a smile and for a cozy place to have that great meal.
