Whether a man is your Dad, your husband, your significant other, whatever, you want him to look his best, right? Is he the ZZTop bearded type? Is he the Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt trimmed beard type ? How about the simple beard type ? How does he (or maybe you) like his hair? Well the answer to the question could be more complex that finding the Genesis Stone. The solution however is much simpler thanks to a duo of products by Philips Norelco. This is THE gift for that man that is so hard to buy for or simply has it all.
When speaking with Philips and trying to decide what to demo, I gave a small list of requirements;
- I am normally a blade shaver and have a very tough beard.
- A blade razor can give me a close shave, but I need to go over certain areas of my face 2-3x due to curves, scars, etc.
- My hair while 90% there, is extremely curly and wavy.
- I have never cut my own hair in my life
I started with the thePhilips Norelco MultiGroom QG3380 system first. I did read the directions which said (among other instructions) go against the growth of the hair. It has full pictures on the clipping and cutting devices. I remember I would always tell my barber that I take a number 3 clipper on the side and back and finger length on top. For arguments sake, I started with a number 4 on the sides and back. I went against the growth pattern. The feel of thePhilips Norelco MultiGroom QG3380 is quite ergonomic. It glided across my scalp with little or no pushing on my part. When it was all said and done, I got the approval of both my wife and daughter, so I continued. I put it up another notch for the top. Again, it was effortless, and approved by all. Now it was time to trim the back of the neck up to the hairline. That I could not do by feel and did not have a mirror behind me. This was done by my wife. Again, no issues and it had my full family approval.
The the Philips Norelco MultiGroom QG3380 system comes with an array of grooming attachments, including;
- Adjustable Beard and Moustache comb
- A detail and stubble comb
- A beard and detail trimmer
- A combo nose and ear hair trimmer
- A Foil shaver for your face
- A body groom shaver and body trimming comb
It comes with a full guide as well.
So what does a haircut cost? At time of writing this, the box stores such as Super Cuts, Great Clips and Fantastic Sams are about $14.99 to $16.99. A full salon in a large metro area could be closer to $50 +. Depending on where and how often you get your hair cut, this can pay for itself in just over one use. So groom to your hearts content and look good doing it.
Let’s look at the second half of this “dynamic duo”, and tackle something that most men don’t like to do; shaving. Like I said in the beginning, I have a very tough beard and lots of lines, divots and imperfections on my face, so I was to say the least, skeptical.
After charging the Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D: 1290X/40 razor, I sat in my favorite chair and started watching TV. In less than 10 minutes, I felt no stubble or my face, nor could I see any. The bristles that could lacerate some one’s cheek appeared to be gone. The closeness was the same in most places as it would be with my 5 blade razor. The surprise was that on the parts of my face affected by lines, scaring and/or clefts were smoother than that of a 5 blade razor. There was no burning, no stubble marks and no irritation what so ever. This is the first time that an electric razor has been able to do that. I got a Norelco Speedshaver in 1981 and it pinched in pulled the hairs and did not glide. The shave was close, but it hurt. The Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D: 1290X/40 razor left no evidence. It was almost as if I got my face waxed.
Its best features are;
- The Gyro Flex 3d head which conforms to every line on your face
- The UltraTrack heads have channels for long hairs, slots for medium hairs and even holes for the shortest stubble.
- The Skin glide system feels like glass on water. No wait, it feels like nothing, because you can not even feel it.
- Fully charged, it claims 6o minutes of shave time.
So say good bye to your styptic pencils, mini band aids and the corner barber. You now have the power to look your best, courtesy of Philips Norelco.
