Cat litter

Every once in awhile I am asked to test a product for pets. The latest product that I have tested is SmartCat All Natural Litter. I have to say it is one of, if not the best litter that I have tested. It meets all of the manufacturer’s claims:

No Smell – the litter is fragrance free but it does have a slight “earthy” scent to it. Cats will often refuse to use a litter box if the litter has a perfume scent to it. Since this litter has an “earthy” scent I feel that it will attract a cat and perhaps help cat owners whose cats have a problem using the litter box solve that problem.

Dust Free – it is dust free; some litters leave a film of dust on the litter box and around it. This litter does not do that. It is not good for cats to breathe in dust. When you consider how often a cat uses the litter box that can amount to a substantial amount of dust. The dust can cause upper respiratory problems in a cat, especially if it has additives and chemicals.

Easy to scoop – I like this the best about the litter. Some litters form a clump that is almost like concrete and clean litter tends to stick to it. This litter clumps very well and the clean litter falls through the scoop easily. The clumps are solid, but not hard like concrete. I have tested litters where the clumps almost adhered to the litter box and were hard to scoop out. This litter is not like that and scoops easily without the loss of clean litter.

Light weight – this litter is very light weight and is soft on the cat’s paws.
The product is made from grass that is grown in the US which I like. That might be why it has an “earthy” aroma. The littler is about 1/3 of the weight of other litters. I like the fact that it is made from grass. Cats like grass and the “earthy” odor should attract them to the litter box. The lightweight aspect of the litter makes it easy to pour the litter into the box.

The litter is biodegradable and chemical free.

Unfortunately it is currently only available through but soon should be available through other outlets. I think it is worth ordering on line.
