Ever wanted an easy way to become a better rider? Then the Dr. Jones Motorcycle Riding Tips mobile app is for you. As long you have iTunes connected to your iPhone or iPad, you can download this app for just $1.99 and have access to basic, low speed motorcycle maneuvering and braking drills which can be done in a private practice lot of your choosing.
Released this month by the MSF, or Motorcycle Safety Foundation®, this mobile app is based on the MSF publication “You and Your Motorcycle: Riding Tips,” as well as the ten-video series released by Dr. James Heideman, the Director of Licensing Programs for the MSF.
The idea of the app is to make riding techniques and practices taught by the MSF available to any new or experienced rider as well as provide a means for them to practice and learn at their own pace without the pressure of a classroom environment. This way, they can prepare for the riding skill test at the DMV on their own time with little interruption to a busy schedule.
The App has a simple set up, with a series of basic motorcycle riding drills laid out in a list format and for each drill, a brief summary of how to do the exercise along with a video demonstration provides ample explanation to safely and properly execute riding exercises. All the rider needs is a basic understanding of how to operate a motorcycle and they’d have much to gain from this app.
Considering the MSF charges in excess of $200 to participate in the 15-hour Basic RiderCourse®, $1.99 is not much to spend to be a safer, more efficient rider.
