As winter nears its chilly end, I have to confess: there will be no love loss once it's over. In fact, I'll drink to that with a glass of the recently launched Italian winter sparkling Lolita aglianico. Made from aglianico grapes harvested in the Campanian region in Southern Italy, this sparkling wine offers aromas of white peach, strawberry, cherry and golden apples combine with a crisp and lingering palate.
The aglianico is a black grape grown from vines that originated in Greece and considered the Roman equivalent of a first-growth wine. The vines were brought to the south of Italy by Greek settlers.
I settled at the dinner table with a glass full of the rose/topaz colored bubbly with the fresh melon aroma and strawberry flavor. I would consider this wine a welcome to spring taste, as it brings forth visions of budding flowers along tree-lined neighborhoods -- a renewal that is spring.
As I pack up my fur and toss my winter boots in a bin, I sip as I sling my winter weary wardrobe out of sight until end of fall --- thankfully, a long way away.
I'll drink to that. And you can too, with or without appetizers. The glass to serve it in? How about the Lolita handpainted designed flute.
