Here’s why this album should be in your collection!
Wild and Peaceful by Kool & the Gang offered plenty of good music for partygoers to celebrate the end of 1973.
Robert “Kool” Bell and Ronald Bell formed Kool & the Gang in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1964. The band signed with De-Lite Records in 1969. As the album’s title suggested, Wild and Peaceful contained a mix of party jams and mellow tunes with socially conscious themes.
“Funky Stuff” was complemented with “More Funky Stuff”-- enough to make a hit instrumental B-side for the hit 45 rpm single. “Jungle Boogie,” featuring Don Boyce (the band's roadie) on vocals, became a Top Ten hit on several charts; “Hollywood Swinging” followed it to become the band’s first #1 hit.
“Wild and Peaceful,” the title track, was the best of the mellow tunes. But the party jams were the most popular. Wild and Peaceful went Gold; the next album matched that, and three others reached the R&B Top Ten. An even greater run of success started after J.T. Taylor joined in 1979 and provided lead vocals for many of the band’s now classic hits.
