I am reviewing, “A Call to Worship” by Rob Saranpa. His website is: www.robsaranpaworship.webs.com
Rob accepted Jesus in 2003, and is the author of a children’s book called “The Night Jesus Met Santa Claus.” It was turned into a song and performed by Ricky Traywick (brother of Randy Travis.)
The song I am reviewing, “A Call to Worship” was released by Lamon Records in 2006. The songwriter notes that the song was recorded “multi-voiced purposely to shop to an artist.” But I have to admit, I kind of like it like that… has a nice chorus feel to it. The vocals are great, instrumentation is good too. You can tell it’s a demo for other artists, because it has what sounds like drum loops and the production is not that great. I won’t judge it based off of the production, since it’s admittedly a demo. For a demo, it’s solid!
I love the melody and the performance overall… but I hate to say this, because people say it to me all of the time about my music, so forgive me I know how it feels: The lyrics are definitely cliché. They’re put together well, great structure and they sound good… but it’s like a bunch of clichéd lines added together into one song. It’s hard not to be cliché in Christian music, but I feel this is a bit overly cliché. It’s a praise and worship song, but maybe you could cut out some of the cliché lines by adding a personal story in there somewhere.
I think it’s a great song, it’s simple… it is catchy, although cliché. I think a lot of people would truly love this song; it’s a sing along type of song. You want to sing along with it, so I think the writer accomplished what he wanted to accomplish. I listened to it, a few times in a row just to get an idea of what to write… and I didn’t get tired of it, so that’s a good sign! It’s great, I think you guys will enjoy it, but I have to get give it a 4 out of 5 stars; simply because the lyrics are overly cliché. Again, that’s very hard to avoid in Christian music, but this song was made 3 years after Rob accepted Christ… So, I have to give him props on a job well done, so early after accepting Jesus! I can’t wait to hear more from this guy.
