Mazda has produced a hands-down winner with its latest and greatest, the 2014 Mazda6. The well-dressed car is an absolute stunner, who'd dare step up and debate this fact? But here's the question of the day--why isn't the Mazda6 on the radar of most midsized car buyers?

Doing a 360, the Mazda6 oozes Euro styling, a real triple 'S' threat--sleek, sexy and striking. The family-sized sedan wants to grab and hold your interest and it certainly does the job, and more than well. The Mazda6 has a low-slung, sporty look. There's a new standout corporate grille that is attractive, not overdone and an arched roofline that flows nicely towards the rear. The front fender lines are strong and overall, the car also looks longer but it's not. As a matter of fact, the length of the Mazda6 has been shortened by about 2-inches. The car has a neat little rump that is tight, no flab to be found here, with a dual-chrome exhaust and refined tail lamps that are connected by a strip of chrome. The overall design on the Mazda6 gets an animated head nod; can't find one fault with its exterior makeup.

Getting in and out of the Mazda6 is effortless as the door openings are extra wide. Inside, everything is neat as a pin and well put together. The Japanese automaker drop kicked the cheapy plastics of yesteryear found in the previous Mazda6 models. Now the cabin of the Mazda6 offers an impressive premium fit and finish with soft touch molded plastics that will confuse and make you think, you're in a ride with a pricier sticker.

The Mazda6 is roomy front and back with a family-pleasing trunk space, 14.8 cubes. The seating is one-size-fits-all, great on backs, especially on road trips. One nitpicky thing however was with the center armrest which moves forward and back; it floats way too freely which can literally be a pain in the elbow.

The dash design is simple, the infotainment system will satisfy most pains in the rump with its ease of use, however the 5.8-inch screen could use a growth injection, as could its knobs which are perfect for lady fingers but not hefty man hands. The screen's graphics are crisp however. Another nitpicky suggestion is that the automaker needs to speed up its media interface which lags in the Mazda6.

The Mazda6 comes in three different models: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The Sport and Touring models are offered with the automatic or manual transmissions, but the Grand Touring is automatic-only. Driving the Mazda6 was fun (test vehicle was the Grand Touring). The very well-behaved car rides smoothly and has top-notch road connection, thumbs-up acceleration, agile turning maneuvers and a church-like hushed interior, so quiet you can hear your own thoughts. The front wheel drive Mazda6 is powered by a 2.5 liter 'SkyActiv' in-line four-cylinder engine, fitted with direct injection, variable valve control that cranks out 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. It can be matched to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission (with shift paddles on the steering wheel). The Mazda6's handling can very well snatch the spotlight from some of its midsized competitors and it shall, once its more fuel-efficient, and ballsier turbo-diesel version, hits showrooms later this year.

And speaking of gas mileage, the Mazda6 is not thirsty at all and offers an impressive EPA mileage of 26 city/38 highway which is at the top end of the four-cylinder, non-hybrid cars in the midsize class.

OK, so the Mazda6 has it going on but wait, riddle me this Batman...why is it being passed over by the masses? Can the slow sales be attributed to the fact that Mazda doesn't beat you over the head with ads like Toyota, or is it the no V6 engine option factor? Well whatever the reason, the 2014 Mazda6 is the total package, and true dat, it has a bunch of competitors, but if you're looking for a car that will really stand out and make 'them' look, then this is the car you'll want to be seen in.

Prices start at $20,990. Need more info? www.MazdaUSA.com
