Large luxury sedans today usually deliver some impressive combination of elegance, power and technology. This is certainly true of the 2014 Lexus LS 460.
While there are a lot of great cars on the market today at all price points, the rich experience of getting behind the wheel of something like the LS is hard to match.
The sedan is powered by a 4.6-liter V-8 engine that makes 386 horsepower and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available.
The horsepower number is surely impressive, but equally impressive is the smoothness with which acceleration comes. You will never detect a note of harshness when driving the LS, yet it also won’t put you to sleep, because it is pretty responsive.
Its driving chops come primarily from its power; that 386 horsepower actually feels more like well over 400, and there’s a healthy dose of torque in the mix, too. But the LS also doesn’t do badly when it comes to cornering and handling either. Take it for a few twists and turns, and you’ll get a nice little thrill.
On the inside, the LS seats five quite comfortably. When you’re sitting in the front or back seats, you’re struck by how large the car is. It has a wheelbase of 200 inches.
Enjoy such technology features as the remote touch console controller, streaming audio and Bluetooth phone connectivity. There is also a nav system with a 12.3 inch screen, , and options such as a Blue-ray rear seat entertainment system with a nine-inch screen, premium stereo system and power rear sunshade.
On the outside, 18-inch alloy wheels are standard, with 19-inchers available and there are side mirrors with integrated turn signals and xenon headlights.
Fuel economy is rated at 16 mpg city, 24 highway with the rear wheel drive (and 23 highway with all-wheel).
The LS is priced starting at $74,000 and ranges to around $84,000.
The LS is an formidable mix of elegance, power and technology.
