Tis the season. The season for giving, spending time with loved ones, and making new memories with friends and family. They say you must give to receive, and this year, I plan to give great thanks to General Motors for their generous gift this week. Too big to fit underneath the Christmas tree, but perfect enough to fit in the garage, a pleasant phone call announced the early arrival of a brand new, bright red 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Recalling my childhood Christmas excitement, This rekindled the spirit of feeling like a kid all over again.
With confirmation of my package's arrival, I couldn't wait to get home and become thoroughly acquainted. I felt as much excitement and anticipation to waking up early to open up gifts on Christmas morning. When arriving at home, I could barely put my car in park before I could jump out in excitement. Properly backed in front of my garage sat an updated variant of America's favorite pony car. Properly painted in "arrest me red", matte black accents covered the hood and wheels.
After my love at first sight moment subsided, I approached my test vehicle for the week to peak inside to approve the transmission option. To make my holiday even brighter, I was ecstatic to see a proper 6-speed manual drenched in alcantara suede. Also immediately noticeable were the race inspired, Recaro racing seats that were also dressed well in a leather and alcantara combination. Sitting inside for the first time, the simplicity of one of America 's favorite muscle cars was immediately apparent. Controls were all within easy reach, and communicated a transparent operation of features. A new, entertainment screen occupies the center of the dashboard and displays navigation, radio, Chevrolet's intelligent myLink, and other relevant information. White stitching around the dash blended accents of leather carried through the dashboard underlying a feeling of quality that has been a theme of recent General Motor’s product.
Pushing in the clutch and turning the key immediately raised the senses with a pleasant raw sound roar of a naturally aspirated, small block 6.2 V8. The exhaust has been tuned to a pleasant melody of raw aggression, especially when the tachometer needle is pushed farther in the clockwise position. Yet, overall sound is dampened through several clever innovations, but I imagine the possibility of GM Performance Parts maximizing the obnoxious racket with additional bolt-ons that could encourage the inner beast to be unleashed.
When the original 5th generation of the Camaro was unveiled for the 2010 model year, the resemblance to the 1969 Camaro was completely obvious. And now with the refresh for the 2014 model year, the styling even further recalls past generations. The sexy red paint highlighted the aggressive shoulders and sharp styling cues that simply screams Camaro.
The Camaro continues on its legacy to be one of America's favorite pony cars. Year after year, Chevrolet continues to satisfy and excite its customers, (and media) with heart throbbing machines that will forever be instilled into America's culture. Like baseball and apple pie, cars like the Camaro American icon. Very few cars can communicate to the enthusiasts and buyers an internal love and satisfaction quite like the Camaro.
