Yesterday signaled the beginning of the Halloween season at Rochester’s Seneca Park Zoo with the first weekend of the annual Zoo Boo fundraiser. Things could not have been better for a spectacular start to this event as a bright sunny day with temperatures in the 60s and 70s greeted hundreds of trick or treaters in costumes of all shapes and sizes.
With the beautiful weather came great fun for all ages. Many zoo volunteers were on hand to give out candy, snacks, and other prizes to trick or treaters throughout the zoo. Zoo staff members were also dressed in costume and even the animals had Halloween themed treats in their enclosures. There is a daily treat schedule for selected animals as well which not only provides special treats for the animals, but also the opportunity for parents and children alike to learn about some of the zoo’s stars including the African lions, and African elephants.
The annual event is held on weekends throughout the month of October and is a major fundraiser for Rochester’s zoo. In 2012 the event raised over $30,000 and drew nearly 15,000 guests. Click over to the Seneca Park Zoo’s website for more information.
