2013 Infiniti M37: Subtly styled and engineered to perform (Photos)

We completed yesterday (Feb. 3) ten days of driving an excellently equipped 2013 Infiniti M37s RWD (rear-wheel drive) that delivered solid comfort, luxury, style and performance wherever we drove in the city and on the highway.

The 2013 edition of the Infiniti M37, even as the entry level of the M-Series mid-size performance sedans, delivers every bit of style, performance, luxury, craftsmanship and technology that Infiniti is known for from all five of its 2013 models (M37, M37 AWD, M56, M56 AWD and the Infiniti M35h Hybrid).

New in the M-Series for 2013 is the addition of standard auto-dimming side view mirrors and an auto-trunk cincher, a new Performance Tire & Wheel Package with 20-inch wheels and tires and Sport Brakes and the availability of the popular Sport Packages with all-wheel drive models (AWD) that were previously offered only with rear-wheel drive.

Sport Package-equipped models receive a new Stone Sport interior treatment with a special mix of Stone and Graphite color materials to produce a sporty, high-contrast effect which we considered exceptional in its richness in our test vehicle.

The Premium Package adds the Infiniti Connection telematics with available safety, security and convenience services including Infiniti Personal Assistant, Infiniti's personal concierge service with 24-hour access to a live team of professional assistants.

Our test 2013 Infiniti M37s RWD came with a base MSRP of $48,200 and was loaded up with all of the available options including the Premium Package -$4,200, Sport Package (which is the "s" in M37s) for $3,750, Sport Touring Package -$2,000, Technology Package -$3,050.

With delivery, our 2013 Infiniti M37s, with its rich yet subtle Liquid Platinum exterior and the Stone Sport interior package riding on its 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels, priced at $62,095.

Even sitting still, this 2013 Infiniti M37s looks like it is moving.

Starting with its distinctive exterior silhouette and aggressive lines along its long and wide wheelbase with short overhangs, the low aggressive hood line provides a sporty and powerful silhouette accented by deeply sculpted fenders and doors flowing from its signature Infiniti double-arch grille.

The Sport Package adds a sport front fascia with dark finish grille and dark headlight housings that have standard automatic on/off High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional Xenon headlights with windshield wiper interlock and available auto-leveling headlights with Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) and LED taillights.

Also included are rain-sensing variable intermittent front windshield wipers, power sliding tinted glass moon roof with one-touch open/close tilt feature and a sliding rear sunshade, power-folding, auto-dimming outside mirrors with reverse tilt-down feature, front door handle courtesy lights and dual exhaust (with a distinctive yet subtle rumble) polished tips.

When this 2013 M-37s moves, it is all about performance as it gets up and goes effortlessly with plenty of power and control.

The power train for the M-37 is powered by the standard 3.7-liter VVEL, 24-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy V-6 producing 330 horsepower @ 7,000 rpm with 270 lb-ft of torque @ 5,200 rpm. It is mated to the seven-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) and manual shift mode with Downshift Rev Matching .

The Sport Package adds solid magnesium paddle shifters that leave no question as to their function. In Infiniti , they are the right size and well placed for effective performance on the steering column behind the heated steering wheel that includes audio and feature control buttons.

The standard Infiniti Drive Mode Selector (Standard, Eco, Sport and Snow modes) - a four-mode driver-selectable control of throttle and transmission mapping (plus the 4-Wheel Active Steer on the RWD models) helps optimize vehicle performance with the Active Trace Control, which adjusts engine torque and utilizes braking at each of the four wheels to help enhance cornering performance for sport level control in all conditions.

The M37s fuel economy is rated at 18/26 mpg city/highway and, with the 20 gallon fuel tank, has a range of between 400 and 500 miles.

Getting into the new 2013 Infiniti M37s, you are immediately impressed with the premium materials including Japanese Ash or White Ash silver powdered wood trims, the comfort and room of the cabin, and the convenient array of state-of-the-art technology and control systems that enhance the driving (and riding) experience of the M37.

The nicely styled M37s instrument panel features Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges, gear-like rings on the instrument cluster meters, a 7.0-inch color vehicle information display, push button start and the distinctive Infiniti analog clock.

The rich leather-appointed, heated and climate controlled 10-way power driver and front passenger's seats include 2-way power lumbar support with a dual occupant memory system for the driver's seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors – which can be linked to the individual Intelligent Keys.

In addition, each Intelligent Key remembers the last used climate control, audio and navigation settings. An entry/exit assist system for the driver's seat and steering wheel, heated front seats, sequential welcome lighting illuminated entry system and dual-zone automatic temperature (that has both rear console and floor vents for backseat passengers).

The Premium Package adds the next-generation Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System with 8.0-inch WVGA color touch-screen display, NavTraffic with Real-Time Traffic Information, NavWeather with Real-Time Weather and 3-day forecast, SiriusXM, Zagat Survey- Restaurant Guide, and Streaming Audio via Bluetooth.

A superb audio experience is delivered through a Bose Studio Surround audio system with digital 5.1-channel decoding, 14-channel digital amp and 16 speakers including two personal speakers mounted in the shoulders of each front seat

The Premium Package on our test vehicle also included the Infiniti Connection service that includes available Automatic Crash Notification, Emergency Call, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, My Schedule, and Remote Door Lock/Unlock; and Infiniti Connection Plus including Drive Zone, Speed Alert, Destination Assistance, and in-vehicle access to Infiniti Personal Assistant – the 24/7 personal concierge service.

The 2013 M37s is loaded with Infiniti technology-based safety and convenience features as well.

These include Infiniti's Intelligent Brake Assist (IBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Rear Sonar System, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Blind Spot Intervention(BSI) systems, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Distance Control Assist (DCA).
