So what are the details on the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco?

It is a compact five-passenger front-wheel drive four-door sedan. The engine is a 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder providing 138 hp and 148 ft. lb. of torque. The transmission is a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual gearbox. This Chevrolet’s 0-60 mph time is in 8.1 seconds.

The Cruze has a wheelbase measuring 105.7 inches and the trunk has 15.4 cubic feet of cargo space. The car’s fuel tank holds 12.6 gallons and its highway cruising range is an impressive 529 miles.

On the exterior the Cruze presents as a modern and crisp looking package.

At the front the windshield is well raked and curved to provide good aerodynamics (the Cd. is .30). The hood is compact in length but includes a center character line and V shaped cuts lines at the edges. The headlights are large pointed rectangular units that travel well up the front fenders. The grille is divided into two sections the upper portion of which goes into the hood. Below the bumper is a partitioned air intake.

The Cruze’s side profile has a coupe-like shape including a downward sloping back roof. The upper glass stretches well to the back. There is a beveled cut line just above the door handles and a cut line at the lower part of the doors. The front headlights and rear taillights are visible in the fenders and they give the car a sense of motion.

At the rear the Cruze’s trunk lid is short and it has a slight lip at the edge. The lid is flat at the top but contains a large rectangle shaped recessed license plate area below. There is a classy piece of chrome that runs horizontally at the top of the license plate area. The rear taillights are large and nicely integrated into the trunk and rear fenders. The exhaust tip is hidden from sight.

The interior of the Cruze is contemporary looking and includes good looking materials. The car’s interior fit and finish is very good. Information is provided to the driver by three round gauges. The tachometer is located on the far left and the speedometer is on the far right. In between these two gauges are readings for temperature, fuel and other vehicle information. The dash has an angled center stack that flows up from the console. The front bucket seats are fairly comfortable and they provide reasonable side support. The rear provides adequate legroom and the seat is split 40/60 and folds down to increase the cargo area.

The brakes are discs at all four corners measuring 10.8 inches at the front and 10.5 inches at the rear. The Cruze’s 60-0 mph stopping distance is in 121 feet. The tires measure 215 55 17 inch. .
The suspension at the front includes MacPherson struts, coil springs, gas shock absorbers and a stabilizer bar. At the rear the setup includes a torsion beam, coil springs, gas shock absorbers and a stabilizer bar.

Standard features on this Chevrolet include air conditioning, power door locks, windows and mirrors, cruise control, intermittent wipers, rear window defogger, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, audio and cruise control on the steering wheel, external temperature display, front and rear cup holders, remote trunk release, retained accessory power, electronic speed-proportional power steering, 12 volt power outlets, interior air filter, front and rear reading lights, 6-speaker AM/FM in dash single CD player with CD MP3 playback stereo, auxiliary audio input, radio data system, pre-wired for phone, USB connection, Sirius XM satellite radio, Bluetooth wireless data link for hands free phone and more.

Standard safety features include four-wheel ABS brakes, front and rear head air bags, dual front side-mounted air bags, passenger air bag sensing deactivation, child seat anchors, rear door child safety locks, daytime running lights, auto delay off headlights, dusk sensing headlights, engine immobilizer, electronic brakeforce distribution, stability and traction control, post-collision safety system, tire pressure monitoring and more.

The EPA fuel rating for the Chevrolet Cruze Eco is 28 city and 42 mpg highway.

On the road this Chevrolet offers reasonable acceleration, European like handling and very good fuel economy. Additionally, the Cruze provides a smooth and quiet ride in most driving environments.

The 2012 Chevrolet Cruze’s price starts at $16,800 and the Eco model is priced at $19,325.
