It was great to find Daniel Benton, Assistant Winemaker for Croze Wines, pouring their 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon between the long rows full of wine selections at the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction. Croze is one of two labels from Winemaker Gary Wooton, he has over 28 years of wine making experience over his shoulders and built a reputation for high quality, small production wines. Gary's winemaking philosophy is focused on balance, wines that stand out from the crowd.

Gary started Croze Winery in 1997, with his first vintage of 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then under the Croze label he added Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé, Cabernet Sauvignon fortified wine and in optimal vintages a Vintner's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Under the Smith Wooton label he also produce: Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah.

"At Croze we follow classic European traditions to make our premium wines. As boutique, fine wine craftsmen we embrace the rich diversity of California’s most prestigious wine growing appellations. We recognize the age old tradition of terrior and only source grapes from optimal sites where families take the same care in growing wine as we do in making it."

2005 Croze Cabernet Sauvignon: 100% of the grapes for this wine came from DeConinck vineyard. This well balanced Cabernet shows aromas of red flowers, ripe dark berries, cassis, worn leather and fresh ground pepper. On the palate you can enjoy layers of plum, red currant, tobacco and spice with beautiful earthy notes. Medium to full-bodied Cabernet with noticeable silky tannins and medium to long dry finish. Experience this wine paired with aged blue cheese (Camembert or Gorgonzola), beef stew, rosemary roasted duck, grilled lamb, bison burgers and bitter/sweet dark chocolate (69% cocoa or over).

In Atlanta Croze wines are distributed by Big Boat Wines owned by Liza Allen, they represent small production boutique wineries that put emphasis on high quality. You can purchase Croze wines at your favorite specialty wine store like, The Wine Cellars, Niko's Wine Corner, Perrine's Wine, All Y' alls Wines, J's Beverage Depot, Ansley Wine Merchants, Halls of Fine Wines, Sherlock's Wine, Mac's Beer and Wine, Decatur Wine and Spirits, HopCity Craft Beer and Wine, Tower Wine and Spirits and Green's.
