One of the action films released this past summer was "2 Guns," which was recently released on Blu-ray. It would make a good Christmas gift for fans of buddy films such as "48 hrs." and "Rush Hour."
"2 Guns" stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as faux criminals trying to bring down a drug lord (played by Edward James Olmos). Washington plays Bobby Trench, who is really an undercover DEA agent. Wahlberg plays Marcus Stigman, who is really an undercover Navy intelligence officer who works for his superior, Quince (played by James Marsden). Helping Bobby is Deb (played by Paula Patton), another DEA agent and his former girlfriend.
One reason "2 Guns" works is because it is unpredictable. There are a lot of plot twists in the film, and they work very well.
The movies escapades are over-the-top, but it is still a lot of fun to watch. The action scenes are very impressive, especially the final shootout.
Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg are both excellent. They have great chemistry, and they are both very funny. Paula Patton is also good as Deb, the attractive DEA agent who is dedicated to her job. As the villain, Edward James Olmos is very strong.
"2 Guns" is not the most original film of the year, but it is still fun for fans of the genre.
