Ten years at Tango means free El Diablo dessert and more

Ten years is a long time in the restaurant industry, yet Tango Restaurant and Lounge sits strong at Pike and Boren. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Tango is serving up a month-long celebration of goodies and giveaways, starting with free El Diablo desserts (normally ten dollars) tomorrow and ending with the same offer on April 30.

El Diablo, Tango's signature dish, is indeed a decadent dessert. We're talking a cube of bittersweet chocolate mousse spiked with cayenne pepper (stop devouring the dessert for a moment, and you'll feel the heat) served on burnt meringue with cocoa nibs, spicy almonds, and swirls of tequila caramel sauce. This is not for the faint of heart sweet tooth. They sell an average of fifteen El Diablos a day, which means 6600 egg whites separated to make the meringue each year.

There's more to the menu than the El Diablo for dessert, of course. (See the full photo gallery below). Nibble on some hot or cold tapas, select a salad, or choose some cheeses to start. There are also plenty of main dishes. At a recent dinner, my favorite bite was the paella mixta. It's a bit heavy on the wallet at $48, but it comes heavy on the proteins, including prawns, scallops, mussels, linquica, and pork loin.
