Thirty Portland food carts participated in Willamette Week's third annual Eat Mobile food cart festival. Tickets for the event were sold out days in advance, and attendees were given the opportunity to vote for their favorites in the Carty Awards.

Whiffies Fried Pies from SE 12th and Hawthorne won the People's Choice Award for their deep-fried pies. Flavourspot, the waffle cart with three locations throughout the city, was the runner-up as voted by the people.

The remaining awards were decided by a panel of culinary professionals, including StarChefs.com editor-in-chief Antoinette Bruno, Scott Givot, the president of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, chefs Kamal Mouzawak and Brad Farmerie, Jeff Miller, the president of Travel Portland, and writer Deborah Madison.

Top honors for best tasting food went to Garden State, offering Sicilian-inspired fare. The runner up was the brand new cart PBJ's for its gourmet peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. PBJ's will open on April 26 at NW 23rd and Kearney Street.

The winner for best style was Moxie RX, a juice bar and cafe located at N Mississippi and Shaver Street. Second place was given to The People's Pig, which serves pork sandwiches at its SW 2nd Avenue and Stark Street location.

Not everyone could go home a winner, but several other carts deserve mention. Savor Soup House, from 1003 SW Alder Street, served a delicious Indian-spice lentil soup with fried onions. The quesadillas from Taqueria Los Gorditos were a hit with both young and old samplers, and Busia's Pierogis, made by Whole Foods contest winner Amy Ruth, were smooth and creamy.
