Indulge at California Taco before attending a chilling performance of Shelterskelter 14

In the past months, I have learned that going out to eat is not just about the food, but also about the experience. As a writer, I love written and spoken stories distinctively brought to life. It is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to indulge in two things that I love-food and the arts.

California Taco, known nationally for appearing on Food Networks Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives is conveniently located adjacent to Shelterbelt Theatre where Shelterskelter 14 will be running until October 31st. It is a good idea to sample California Taco’s mouth-watering menu prior to an evening of horror, murder, dark humor and the macabre because you will not want to leave your seat once it starts. Shelterbelt Theatre serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages prior to the beginning of the first play and at intermission.

If you have never been to Shelterbelt Theatre, take the opportunity to spend an evening with them. These ten short original plays have the essence of the Halloween season. I could not agree more with Executive Director, Craig Bond, when he describes Shelterskelter 14 as a good mix of dark, scary, and ridiculously funny.

By Intermission, I needed a drink. One minute I was laughing hysterically and the next feeling uncomfortable and tense. There are characters in the plays that remind us of scary movie classics, but with a twist. Shelterskelter touches all types of fear and dark humor and calls forth the feelings I get when I watch horror movies. The performers stayed in character and had perfect comedic timing when it was appropriate. The story lines encompass the chilling energy the plot line invokes.

The curtain call was by far my favorite. A little something unexpected that was clever and timeless, which the audience did not expect, but clearly enjoyed with howling laughter. There will be a Halloween party on October 31st so be sure to come dressed for the occasion.

The Reader has a great story line summary of each play.
