Cooking With Jazz, no other words needed.

Located in the heart of Fresh Meadows, is Cooking With Jazz. It is a mecca for lovers of cajun/creole food. The head chef (Steve) is known by loyal patrons as a guy who loves to cook, loves to smile, and loves New Orleans.
Authentic Big Easy cuisine is brought into Queens for customers to try specials including Fried Oysters with a roumalade sauce. The oysters are fried perfectly. They are soft and delicate on the inside, and although they are brought to you looking crispy and crunchy, when you bite through, you'll notice they are moist and superior to any other fried seafood to touch your lips.
While waiting for your main course, you can drink a Hurricane or a Cajun Kool-Aid, both served with a kick, however small to the typical "New-Orleans" serving.
The bread basket you'll get will be a mixture of fresh baked white bread, doughy and hot. Or the Jalapeño bread, also freshly baked, served hot, and HOT. The jalapenos give the bread such a zesty flavor, with a sneak up kick, spice-heads will adore this creation. Also, you'll receive a corn muffin and banana-nut muffin, both freshly baked and sinfully delicious.
The jambalaya is spicy and smoky. It has real authentic dirty rice flavoring and the chicken is cooked perfectly.
The Fried Chicken Platter is moist and buttery. The skin stays crisp and hot, but lacks a zest that should be familiar in this point in the meal. KFC has more seasoning In their batter, but the chicken here is better cooked, and won’t overload you with oil or grease.
The best dish of the night was the Tasso, Shrimp and Cream on pasta. The authentic Tasso brings a flavor of smoke to the dish unlike anything you might be able to fine north of Virginia. With the rich cream sauce, and abundance of shrimp in this dish, it’s surely to become a lot of people’s favorite.
For dessert, if you are lucky enough for them to have it, try the sweet potato pecan pie. It doesn’t sound like it will be good, but that’s the amazing part, sure to bring you back for more.
Cooking With Jazz is located at 179-22 Union Turnpike, Jamaica Estates, NY 11366.
Until next time… Enjoy your next forkful.

Thanks for this article! I used to go to Steve's other locations in Whitestone as well as Malverne. His food is spot on authentic and he is a great (sometimes a little testy) but great guy. Go, go, go. His cocktails are great too!
