Go to Pho Buffalo-Pho Saigon that is

Pho Saigon is a simple yet quaint Vietnamese restaurant located in the Burlington Plaza at 1551 Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst. I would highly recommend that you go to Pho, Buffalo. And as soon as possible.  Because when you do, you will be treated to the most incredible array of authentic Vietnamese specialties this side of Southeast Asia. The owners of Pho Saigon are Ngoi and Phuong Truong, who were both born in Vietnam and came to Buffalo in 1975.

Why Buffalo you ask?

Because the good folks who sponsored them are from Western New York, and it's our good fortune that Truong's been here ever since. Their restaurant has been around for about 2 years now, and ever since they opened their doors, Pho Saigon has spurred quite the following. According to Ngoi, once people try the fare, they come back again and again, many times with many friends in tow. I started my lunch with the signature dish: Pho Dac Biet. Better known as simply "Pho" or beef noodle soup with a variety combo. It came in a generous bowl filled to the brim with a strong beef broth along with rice noodles, sprinkled with bits of beef, tripe flank, beef paste balls and onions. Accompanying the main dish was a plate full of bean spouts and basil leafs, which were quickly added to the fray.

This staple of Vietnamese food was simply delicious and satisfying to say the least, and so generous I ended up taking half of it home. And that was the small version for just $6.99. The large serving goes for $7.99 and must be gigantic. Before that I tried the Spring Roll from the appetizer section. It featured bean sprouts, green and basil leaves, rice noodles, shrimp and chicken, all wrapped in rice paper and served with a peanut sauce.  One cost just two bucks and again it was fantastic.

Also up for grabs on the appetizer front: Vegetable Spring Rolls, Vietnamese Eggrolls, a Vietnamese Pancake that was something to behold for $8.49 and would you believe: House Special Wings for just $6.00. A couple other patrons, Dawn and Caroline told me that these deep-fried chicken wings marinated in a special house sauce are to die for, and are as good as any wings in Buffalo, anywhere! That's quite an endorsement. Some of the other main dishes on the menu include Chicken and Beef Pad Thai for $7.49, along with Seafood Pad Thai for $9.95. Green and Red Curry dishes with beef, chicken or pork for $8.95 or with shrimp or a seafood combo for $10.95. Crispy and Peking Duck is also available for $15.95 and $14.95 respectively. Vietnamese Hot and Sour Soup with Catfish or Shrimp goes for $10.95 and a Seafood Combo Hotpot sounds delicious and costs $24.99 for 2 and $44.99 for 4.  Pho Saigon has access for the handicapped and you can reach them at 834-8889 and take out is available.

I give them a solid 4 out of 5 stars and yes they accept Visa and Mastercard. They are open from 11:00am to 10:00pm Monday thru Saturday and from Noon to 8:00pm on Sunday. Do yourself a favor and save the airfare to Vietnam by dining at Pho Saigon today, and tell them your guy sent you.
