Poll: Who has the best Pizza in the Baltimore area?

A slice of pie...
A slice of pie...

The pizza could have been invented by the Phoenicians, the Greeks, Romans, or anyone who learned the secret of mixing flour with water and heating it on a hot stone. The Ancient Greeks covered their bread with oils, herbs, and cheese. The Romans developed placenta, a sheet of flour topped with cheese and honey and flavored with bay leaves. Modern pizza originated in Italy as the Neapolitan pie with tomato. In 1889 cheese was added.

Pizza first made its appearance in the United States with the arrival of Italian immigrants in the late 19th century. The first "official" pizzeria in America is disputable, but it is generally believed to have been founded by Gennaro Lombardi in Little Italy, Manhattan.

I think Iggie's, B.O.P., and Matthews are so different from each other and so individually excellent, any one of them deserves top billing.

I can't believe you didn't put Pasta Mista on there! Real Italians, perfect pizza!

LOL, this poll and its results accurately reflect Baltimore's horrible taste in pizza. I had Matthew's once and was disgusted - it tasted like Ellio's frozen pizza yet cost a small fortune. I honestly don't know how anyone would think it is quality pizza. Plus CPK and Uno are national chains and they still get votes?

I agree with the other commenter, the few decent places Baltimore has, like Pasta Mista (and Zella's) should have been on the list.

Interesting to see that Fortunato Brothers, Pasta Mista and Gil's did not make the list, being many people love those places. Also that B&O Brasserie, which serves flatbreads, not pizza, made it yet Woodberry Kitchen, Bluestone and R2V did not make the list with their flatbreads.

It's also difficult to compare a NY Style Slice to a Neapolitan to a Pan Pizza because it ain't apples to apples. They're just too different and people's pizza tastes are highly personal and individualistic...meaning no one person's opinion is "right".

There is decent pizza in Baltimore, but we are still waiting for a truly excellent pizza here in Charm City.

    How is Cheezys on list?

And tomato comes after the cheese in Italy.Pizzas topped with Caciocavallo cheese, smeared with lards and/or oil and with puffy cornicione cooked in wood fired ovens are older than pizzas topped with just tomato.Pizze Bianca, a modern pizza, is older than pizze marinara which just have tomatoes on it.
