One of the new additions to the Harford Road is The Parkside Restaurant. I had the opportunity to exchange some emails with one of the owners Vickie and found out some great background.
Chris, Colleen, and Vickie came up with what they called a "hair-brained scheme" almost a full year ago this past November, and have been working on getting this space together for almost that long.
Colleen is a trained chef and attended BIC for a short time and has worked in many area restaurants including The Brewer's Art and The Black Olive. She also worked in a bakery for some time and perfected her bread-making skills over the years. She also makes event cakes, including many wedding cakes.
Chris was brewer at The Brewer's Art for many years and has brewed the award-winning Resurrection Ale among others. This was their dream: for Colleen to run a bakery, for Chris to run a bar. All the other responsibilities just came with the territory. Vickie just wanted to make yummy sandwiches, and after years of being a graphic designer, she decided to ditch office-land and join them in this big venture.
They created a lunch menu includes delicious healthy options. During lunch they provide table service and a carryout counter in the deli. Lunch is served from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.
Brunch is Vickie's favorite meal. They hope you will enjoy delicious "standards", and also fun items like Egg in a Hole, sweet & savory blintzes, and cheesy grits with hot sauce! Brunch is served from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sundays.
For dinner they offer daily specials, but also have re-occurring Weekly Dinner Specials. Dinner is served from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, Dinner is served from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM (A kid's menu available) They want to also provide mid- to high-end beer, wine, and liquor choices.
The Bakery specializes in cookies, cakes, bagels, and bread. The deli, in addition to providing salads and sandwiches, also makes deli salads and roasts meats fresh daily. The market is a work-in-progress because they want to make sure they offer the finest selection of fine merchandise from local or hard-to-find merchants. They are working with Great Soul Wellness Center to stock shelves with healthy foods, and are looking into cooking-related items (books, aprons, kitschy items, etc.). They also offer a children's play area and parents' lounge.
