This is one of those standby restaurants we enjoy most late at night or early in the morning. I love the fact that Denny's is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. So recently, when we left Disneyland at 11 PM, we were looking for a place to have a late meal. The nice thing was that we were able to find one on our route home at 1420 N State College in Anaheim. This Denny's, just east of the Highway 57 overpass, was a well-lit, clean, coffee shop.
At this hour of the day, we wanted something relatively light so breakfast sounded like the ideal thing. We decided to forgo Denny's new “$2 $4 $6 $8 Value Menu.” Instead, we both tried their new Ultimate Skillet breakfast, $5.99. I added a fresh brewed iced tea, $2.29, and a side order of a Grilled Ham Slice, $.99.
The Ultimate Skillet includes fresh spinach, breakfast sausage, fire-roasted peppers and onions, mushrooms, grape tomatoes and seasoned red-skinned potatoes. They are topped with a smoky cheese blend and two eggs cooked the way you like them. I had mine without the cheese; otherwise, we had the same thing with our eggs over medium.
One word of caution, though, is that when Denny's says on the menu that these are sizzlin’ skillets, they mean it. These skillets came out as hot as a fajita skillet. It made for crispy peppers and onions as well as anything else that touched the skillet.
We enjoyed these skillets so much that last week we went to a Denny's near our movie theater to have them for dinner at 9 PM.
We were particularly delighted with the excellent service our waiter, Carlos Andres provided. He was friendly and attentive. He managed to visit briefly without ignoring his other patrons.
The next time you're looking for a family restaurant with table service at prices comparable to a fast food restaurant, stop in at your local Denny's. In fact, we encourage you to try out their new Ultimate Skillet.
