WaPo: By the way, Obama's whole 'If you like your plan, you can keep it' schtick is a lie

This fiction peddled by the president that you can keep your current insurance under ObamaCare bothers me every single time I hear it. A fourth grader can see that if your employer is the one deciding what your plan is, then your employer will decide whether you keep it or whether they dump you into the government plan. The employee has nothing to do with it. And when ObamaCare makes it cheaper for the employer to dump you, you will be dumped. End of story.

Finally, somebody in the MSM nails Obama on this point. From the Washington Post.

President Obama promises that, if health-care reform is enacted, people will be able to keep their current coverage.

"I keep on saying this but somehow folks aren't listening: If you like your health-care plan, you keep your health-care plan. Nobody is going to force you to leave your health-care plan," he said Saturday in a town hall meeting in Grand Junction, Colo., much as he said Friday in Belgrade, Mont., and earlier in the week in Portsmouth, N.H.

However, under legislation drafted by House and Senate Democrats, that would not necessarily be true.

Legislation written by three House committees and the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions would allow eligible employers to move workers into a new marketplace for insurance, where they could choose from various coverage options. . . .

But Democratic legislative aides said there is no assurance that any of the options offered in the exchange would be the same as employees' current coverage.

Because coverage offered through an exchange would have to comply with new requirements, it could easily be different.

The weasel phrase "eligible employers [could] move workers into a new marketplace for insurance, where they could choose from various coverage options" is a euphemism for "Your employer just dropped you from its plan." So if you liked that plan, tough cookies, it's gone. The Post bravely acknowledges this too.

The legislation could also prompt some employers to drop coverage, congressional budget analysts say.

In a report last month on a bill advanced by House Democrats, the Congressional Budget Office said millions of people would gain employment-based coverage and millions would lose it. The CBO estimated that the number of people gaining the coverage would exceed the number of people losing it.

As for the losers, "CBO and the JCT [Joint Committee on Taxation] staff estimate that, in 2016, about 3 million people (including spouses and dependents of workers) who would be covered by an employment-based plan under current law would not have an offer of coverage under the proposal," the CBO said. . . .

In an interview, White House spokeswoman Linda D. Douglass acknowledged that employers could stop offering coverage. "The CBO has concluded that the dropping of coverage will be minimal," she said. "That is not to say that some employers will not drop coverage."

Actually, Heritage estimates that 88.1 million people would lose their employer-based coverage and would be moved to the government dole.

That is 88.1 million people who are being directly lied to by the President of the United States. Gotta give the Post credit on this one for calling Obama on the Big Lie.

USA Today also debunked Obama's claim on August 12.

CNN Money debunked it long ago in its commentary on the 5 freedoms you'll give up under ObamaCare.

My employer has changed health insurance plans every year for the past 3 years. Each time getting worse and worse, that is without the presidents health care plan. I have MS (not a disease related to my lifestyle) and my co-pay for my medication went from $35 per month to $1100 per month. Atleast with the presidents healthcare plan there will be limits on out of pocket expenditures. Insurance companies will have to abide by those whether they join the exchange or not.

Also, if the employer opts to go into the exchange doesn't mean they will choose a "lesser plan" they might be able to choose a better plan because it might be cheaper.
