The Republican 'purity test' (part two)

The Republican ‘purity test’ (part two)

A resolution is being passed around the Republican National Committee for discussion on a so-called purity test for future candidates that supposedly harks back to the days of former President Ronald Reagan.
Some of the questions candidates will have to answer if they wish to receive money and other forms of support from the Republican establishment include:
-          Smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like Obama’s “stimulus” bill;
-          Retention of the Defense of Marriage Act;
-          Legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants;
-          Protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care rationing and denial of health care and government funding of abortion;
The full resolution and list of questions can be found here .
The author of this resolution is RNC Committeeman Jim Bopp, Jr., from Indiana who is also the general counsel to the National Right to Life he confirms that this may be considered at the RNC’s winter meeting held late January.
Bopp said that the goal of this resolution is to “take a position towards reclaiming the Republican Party’s conservative bona fides,” but made note that there are some members of the Party who have favored the bailouts and profligate spending and other questions on the list.
He went on to say that the RNC wants to “demonstrate that we are open to diverse views but you have to agree with us most of the time.”
Just when the GOP were coming off a high after the Virginian and New Jersey big wins the Party seems hell bent on making life more complicated for themselves when it does not need to be. Bopp even admits he has not even spoken with Chairman Michael Steele regarding this matter saying this would ‘insulate’ the Chairman from backing particular candidates or not as the case may be.
The liberals are of course in a lather with The Huffington Post leading the way. NBC commentators are likening it to Nazi Germany though not using those exact words just ‘references to 1932 Germany.’
This is not RNC policy just yet – just a balloon being floated out there for comment and discussion but I would take the Haley Barbour approach: inclusive rather than exclusive to maximize the GOP depending on the District and the State candidates which to represent.
What does this mean for candidates running in 2010 like Florida, Illinois, Missouri and Pennsylvania where some of the most interesting races are going on.

    RIdiculous! The RNC continues to shoot itself in the foot, again and again. I am a 55 year totally dedicated Republican and agree with 8 of the 10 resolutions. Does that disqualify someone from supporting a Conservative approach to government?
    Good Grief!!!
