Sen. Ken Cuccinelli - not quite yet a household name

The majority of voters in the Commonwealth of Virginia have probably never heard of Ken Cuccinelli, let alone pronounce his last name. He plans to change that.

The State Senator is the Republican candidate for Attorney General  this year after winning the nod at convention over fellow attorneys, John Brownlee and Dave Foster. He is running on the GOP ticket with former Attorney General Bob McDonnell running for Governor and current Lt. Governor Bill Bolling seeking a further term.
It’s been a good week for Cuccinelli with the Richmond Times-Dispatch running a laudatory editorial yesterday (Saturday August 22) praising him on his prescience with regard to the implications of the Melendez-Diaz v.Massachusetts Supreme Court case handed down on June 25th.
Cuccinelli called for a Special Session of the General Assembly to deal with the issues arising from the case. Mr.Cuccinelli’s opponent disagreed and called it a ‘political stunt.’  Unfortunately for Mr Cuccinelli’s opponent, Steve Shannon, his Democratic colleague, part-time Governor Tim Kaine, put his weight behind the bill for a Special Session which was held this past Wednesday. This is generally seen as a slap in the face to Shannon and the Cuccinelli campaign would be remiss not to remind voters of this.
Well known political analyst Bob Holsworth in his highly popular ‘Virginia Tomorrow’ refers to it as the “Cuccinelli Session’. This will not be music to the ears of Steve Shannon who continues to trail in every published poll thus far.
Human Events’, widely known as Ronald Reagan’s only newspaper of choice, wrote a piece this week titled: “Cuccinelli’s AG Bid Solidifies Virginia Conservatives" and addressed, amongst other things, the highly significant vote in the North or, as my good friend Joe McCain likes to call it even though he lives there; the Peoples’ Republic of Communist Northern Virginia.
Cuccinelli holds his own there in counties such as Fairfax which has provided a couple of Republican upsets of late. (More on that in another piece).
Last night, Sen. Cuccinelli spoke at a gathering of fellow Republicans and a couple of undecided voters at a residence in Stratford Hill. (Full disclosure – residence is that of author’s and her partner who hosted the event). Well over 30 people turned out despite up to five inches of rain on a Saturday evening in late Summer.
The Senator spoke at length on mostly crime and law and order issues such as sentencing, gangs, 2nd Amendment rights, the 10th Amendment and how that is relevant to the so-called card check legislation being floated, property rights, fighting tax increases and how that will support small business in Virginia and how it would seem that voters not only in Virginia but across the U.S. are having ‘buyer’s remorse in terms of voting for Barack Obama and his team last November – particularly Senator Mark Warner who is still missing in action.
Sen. Cuccinelli took questions on myriad topics and stayed afterwards to listen to peoples' concerns and suggestions. This personable, one-on-one approach was universally appreciated by those in attendance who are used to being ignored by their representatives and would-be representatives. This manner will stand him in good stead in the lead up to November 3.

Can anyone write these columns? A woman hosts a gathering for Cuccinelli, then writes an article about how great a guy he is? And says there were FIVE inches of rain on Saturday? I'm pretty sure Cuccinelli came up with a cure for cancer on Sunday. Why didn't she throw that in. What dreck.
