Chesterfield Republicans encouraged to vote today in Party canvass for special election in the 27th
Third Party support unexpectedly crucial
Race heats up after Liberty Party endorsements
Chesterfield voters get chance to choose a new representative for the 27th district following the resignation of Sam Nixon from the House of Delegates following his appointment to head up the Virginia Information Technology Agency by Governor Bob McDonnell.
The
Republican Party is holding a Party Canvass today, May 10, from 4pm – 8pm. This means voting at a different location than normal voting locations. There are three locations (see below) to vote.
In a year that looks like establishment party candidates and incumbents will have it tough in special elections and primaries up to the November mid-terms even party canvasses such as this evening’s vote in Chesterfield will be scrutinized by those looking for clues as to voter mindset.
The
Richmond Tea Party is taking an active role in this election using their website to post updates on the poll and are urging supporters to learn more about the candidates and vote in the nomination process if they are inclined to the Republican Party.
A Democratic candidate announced today that he will run for the Special Election. William P. Brown is the current Chairman of the
Chesterfield Democratic Party and is the only Democrat to announce though others have until May 14
th to announce.
Links to the candidates’ websites have been provided by the Richmond Tea Party who, after the Party canvass will submit a detailed questionnaire to all candidates which will be posted on their website.
The
Liberty Party of Virginia has endorsed two of the four Republicans in the race after questioning them on issues that concern them. Party Chairman Kirby Harris told the Richmond Republican Examiner this afternoon that the Liberty Party sought to ask all candidates the same questions either in person or by phone. They were able to speak with Jason King and Sherman Litton almost immediately and Brian King some time later. Despite pushing back their day for announcing endorsement for Ms. Robinson they are yet to speak with the candidate and a spokesperson was unable to answer basic questions on civil liberties and the Constitution.
In a demonstration of the power of social media in elections, Facebook has been ablaze today with back and forth discussions about the candidates, policy and tonight’s vote. State Senator Steve Martin is a supporter of Ms. Robinson’s and has been speaking on her behalf over accusations that she is unavailable to answer questions. Ms. Robinson is an optometrist and is unavailable to answer questions when seeing patients.
The Virginia Citizens’ Defense League is also endorsing King and Litton following a questionnaire submitted to the candidates on Second Amendment rights. They have both answered the candidate survey with 100% support for Virginian guns rights. Candidates Sullivan and Robinson are yet to respond.
The General Special Election date has been set for June 15h.

I think that is rediculous that Steve Martin is Dr. Robinson's mouthpiece. If she is too busy to answer her potential constituents now, how will she handle it if she were to be elected? His response was that she was too busy with patients in her optometery practice. I personally have never had an eyeglass perscription emergency but, hey, maybe that happens. Nor have I ever seen an optician open 24 hours. I find Steve Martin using her "patients" as a excuse pathetic.
Why is he so invested in her over other candidates? I can see that it is either a personal vendetta against someone else in the race or he sees her as a puppet.
