Cantor says reconciliation will lead to Democrats losing Congress

Cantor also slams Pelosi over Rangel

House Minority Whip, Eric Cantor (Va-7th), says Democrats are in danger of losing power on Capitol Hill should they choose the reconciliation option in passing the President’s revised heath care reform bill.
Speaking on ‘Meet the Press’ Sunday, Rep. Cantor discussed the bipartisan health care summit called by President Obama and held at the Blair House in Washington D.C. and the Senate and House votes needed to pass the legislation.
“I’ll tell you one thing. If Speaker Pelosi rams through this Bill, through the House, using the reconciliation process, they will lose their majority in Congress in November,” Cantor said.
Earlier in the week Republican Whip Cantor released a statement which his office says was offered “in light of Senator Reid’s support for changing the rules in the middle of the game by using reconciliation.”
“By using the reconciliation process, the Administration and Democrat leaders are sending a clear signal that they still refuse to listen to the American people and have no interest in bipartisanship. To be certain, by using the reconciliation process, the Administration makes clear that their promise of bipartisanship is dead.” Cantor said.
Cantor went on to say that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in failing to strip Congressman Charlie Rangel of his Chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee, was guilty of breaking her promise to the American people ‘every day’ to oversee the most ethical Congress.
“Nancy Pelosi said at the very beginning ‘this is going to be the most open, honest and ethical Congress in history and what we’re seeing is she is breaking that promise every day. And I am sure my colleague (Debbie Wasserman Schultz D-Fla) would join me in saying that the American people would say right away Charlie Rangel should step aside from being Chairman of the most major committee in Congress after having been found to be in violation of House rules. And, as we know in Press reports, this is only the tip of the iceberg. I called for his stepping down before even this finding and now I do think it is time,” Cantor said.
Health care reform, rather than job creation, was the dominant issue for the Obama Administration this week despite the passing of a so-called ‘jobs bill’ earlier in the week. Republicans and Democrats failed to agree even after the marathon summit convened by the President Thursday.
Representative Cantor was admonished by the President for bringing a copy of the Senate Bill and Obama’s 11-page proposal to the summit which has been deemed a ‘prop’. This was brought up by ‘Meet the Press’ host David Gregory Sunday drawing again attention to the size of the bill.
“You have the Bill piled up in front of you – what can you say ‘yes’ to that’s in the President’s revised proposal, anything?” Gregory asked.
“We could start with implementing real medical malpractice reform. We could start by creating universal access programs at the state level to allow those who are being denied coverage by their insurance company right now the ability to access insurance. We could put in place the ability, real ability, for people to purchase insurance across state lines for real competition and it would help bring down costs,” Cantor replied.
“The reality is Republicans do care about health care. We want to address the first and most foundational element which is cost. Because, if we can bring down cost more people can access care.
“This notion, that somehow, Republicans never came forward never came forward with solutions, I think that the American people are over that now. Our approach is an incremental approach. It is not ‘do nothing’, I think that’s tired and old. Let’s talk about the first thing which is bringing down health care costs,” Cantor said.

Stop whining, Eric, and fess us to the American people instead of trying to poison the well on Reconciliation...then force the Dems to use it because in April you guys decided to "kill health reform...& break Obama".

The truth is out - 2.24.2010 Report from CENTER FOR BUDGET & POLICY PRIORITIES reveals that ONLY ABUSE OF RECONCILIATION PROCESS WAS BY GOP FOR BUSH 2001 & 2003 TAX CUTS. And you voted for them, baby, as did all the hypocrit Repubs at the Summit!!

The report states GOP USED "SUNSET & TIMING GIMMICKS...& BUDGET GIMMICKS" to VIOLATE RECONCILIATION LAW STANDARDS, because legislation passed with the majority vote option should reduce deficits, whereas BUSH TAX CUTS ADDED $2.3 TRILLION TO NATIONAL DEBT!!

SHAME ON YOU, REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS..you've been lying to us. The Report also says use of Reconciliation to enact Obama health reform policy is consistent with past practice, as long as the fiscal discipline is respected - which seems so.

    Is this a new feature?

Quote a dope? On deck , Glen Beck.

Socialism is bad, lets get rid of the libraries, police ,firemen, air force, traffic controllers, traffic lights and the post office. A good start. right?

Please, sombody, think things thru with your own brain. It would be nice to require that authors of books show proof that they actually read one.
