The president and his Capitol henchmen, fresh from dropping a cool $787 billion on the so-called 'stimulus' package, have decided that it isn't enough. So let us welcome Stimulus's retarded little brother, Omnibus.
For a mere $410 billion, Omnibus will deliver
- $6.9 billion on Nutrition for Women, Infants and Children
- $14.5 million for National Animal Identification
- $178 million for climate change research
- $317 million to reduce abortions, to counter increased monies for abortions in a previous bill
- $240.2 million for light rail
- $7 billion for welfare housing (not including the elderly and disabled, who get a little over a $billion between them)
- $120 million for "Hope" to revitalize deteriorating mixed-income neighborhoods
- $5.5 billion for overseas AIDS prevention and treatment
- $1.5 billion for UN Peacekeeping
- $82 million for "international family planning", i.e. abortions
- $2 billion for climate change research, in a ddition to and under a different section of the bill from that listed above
This is just a tasting menu of some of the many millions that will soon be lost in governmental bureaucracy.
The public is a little unclear as to how President Obama can call for deficit reduction one day, and then bring spending up over a trillion dollars.
Missouri Republican Congressman Roy Blunt is calling for a freeze in federal spending.
"President Obama is holding a fiscal responsibility summit this afternoon, and this weekend announced his intentions to cut the deficit in half by the end of his term. I support both these actions and believe the quickest way to get started is by freezing government spending.
"During these trying economic times, American families are making tough decisions about their budgets. It’s time the federal government exercises that same level of discipline. With a little effort, we can fund every necessary program without requesting already strapped taxpayers to foot the bill for government excess."
House Republicans are also calling for a freeze. The Republican Conference Chairman, Mike Pence is quoted "After a spending spree that included the rest of the banking bailout, a massive stimulus bill, a call for a housing and mortgage bailout -- now the federal government is poised for the largest increase in discretionary spending since the Carter administration."

If we're going to assign a lineage to "Rush's little brother" ,to paraphrase the author, please remember he was spawned from the shallow end of the last administrations gene pool. The disengenuous argument that this is Obama's issue falls flat because the budget was put together by the Shrub's henchmen. It failed to pass then because the Republicans had already been handed their asses by the electorate and didn't need any more bad publicity so they put if off for the opportunity to assign blame to someone else. The worst thing for Republicans is an educated voter.
