Outrage: Lockerbie bomber released from jail, blew up Pan Am 103 over Scotland in 1988- killing 270

A picture of the wreckage of Pan Am 103 and of the recently released bomber

The news today was both outrageous and shocking, that a Scottish judge has allowed the convicted Pan Am 103 bomber out of jail for “compassionate reasons” because he was suffering from terminal cancer. Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, 57, was convicted in 2001 of taking part in the bombing of the Pan Am flight over Lockerbie, Scotland on December 21, 1988. All told, 259 people died on the flight, including 189 Americans and another 11 on the ground in Scotland. At the time, the bombing of Pan Am 103 was one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in history and sparked international outrage over the extensive loss of innocent life.

Libyan intelligence agents turned out to be behind the attack and al-Megrahi was extradited to the United Kingdom in 2001 where he was sentenced to 27 years to life for the bombing. He was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer last year and petitioned the court for compassionate release. It was finally given to him and he left Scotland today on a private plane. The statements by the majority of the families today are against the release of this man and our government has also stated that they are against it. The White House, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Attorney General Eric Holder all came out with statements today opposing the release of the Lockerbie Bomber.

I have to say that I am also outraged by this decision. This man is an unrepentant terrorist. Not once has he shown any compassion for the friends and loved ones of those killed, but he demanded a release from jail for “compassionate reasons.” Typically, the families of the victims would have a say in this process and from their public statements, they did not have a role. Americans represented more than half of the victims, but this our opinions were not taken into consideration apparently.  This man gets to go free after serving only 8 years for a terrorist attack that killed 270 people. Where is the justice in that? The judge that set him free is an idiot and people who feel that he should be free in his last few weeks to be with his loved ones are clearly not interested in justice. This man shouldn’t have even had time to be diagnosed with cancer. He should have either been executed for his crimes or we should have sent in the Special Ops to deal with him. Al-Megrahi should be on his way to Guantanamo Bay, not Libya, for the pain and suffering that he has caused hundreds of people. This is truly an example of a miscarriage of justice.

Here is a clip of footage of the news of al-Megrahi's release and background on the case:

AH! Let's just bomb that whole country! They only harbor terrorists! Long live the USA! You're right! Send in the troops to bomb him! Should be nothing left but a pair of thighs! We should shoot that private jet out of the sky; give him a taste of his own 'medicine'. Or maybe even a nice car bomb, with a Katrina car! ARRRRR!

If this is Scottish Justice, we should consider cooling our relations with this country until either Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi dies or until the 19 years remaining on his sentence expires. Compassionate relief for a man with no compassion. Why not just step up to the surviving relatives of the victims of Pan Am 103 and slap them in the face. It would probably hurt alot less than what this Scottish judge has done.

Seems to me this judge was drunk off PURE SCOTCH when he decided it would be a good idea to free this serpent. This judge will have blood on his hands. BLOOD ON HIS HANDS! He should have shouted 'Neine neine neine neine neine" when the request came in and thrown the docket at the secretary.

Remind me to never go to Scotland. Sean Connery will shoot this terrorist for fifty-five hundred pounds sterling!

Actually it wasn't a judge, it was a lawmaker, Kenny McAskill, Scottish Justice Secretary. The matter is reserved for the Justice Secretary to make and justify in parliament.
The law in this respect has to be applied consistently otherwise any other offenders who were declined release could argue the law was not applied consistently or properly and challenge not only the refusal of compassionate release but also their sentence also.
Megrahi met the criteria given he has at most 3 months to live, its hard for the families but the law is emotionally detached (as it must be) and the ruling was made in accordance with said law.

No one knows when this man will dee for sure. Those people on that plane probably knew when their time would come. It is OUTRAGEOUS that this man has time to meet people before he dies. The people on that plane never got that chance. Shameful.

IF he did it of course, given that the Syrians were number 1 suspects until the first gulf war when due to the offer of Syrian Airfields, the administration of the time changed its tune and the Clinton administration kept whistling the same tune over and over. Interesting how Syria has reappeared on the state sponsors of terror list since Saddam was overthrown....
Could it be perhaps that Syria had a hand in the Lockerbie bombing as initially suspected?
There is more to this than the US, UK and Libyan govts want to admit to.
Too many political and un-named agencies with too many concealed motives.
I'm not the only one with this view, some of the families of the Scottish victims (those killed when the plane debris hit the town) also think there was a cover up of some sort and too many unanswered questions.

The Scottish Criminal Cases Review Committee decided this was a miscarraige of justice based on faked evidence, false testimony, and tampering with the crime scene by the US government as well as corruption by the panel of judges (no jury). Be informed. Enjoy the read:

Once again, the UK has shown themselves to be silly and gutless. As usual, bending over backwards to be seen as the nice guys, so politically correct they fail to have understanding or compassion for the victims, but make excuses for the scumbags of the world. Hey England and Scotland, you have paid for the past - stop giving over your country to terrorists and start trying to save the Western world and its people.

    Taken from CNN:

"Do you agree with the decision to release Lockerbie bomber Abdelbeset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi?"

    Yes 8% 29791
    No 92% 338781
    Total Votes: 368572

I'm going to take a guess and say that the roughly 30K 'yes' respondents are probably anarchists and mentally ill.

So no one sees the value in releasing him huh??
Keeping him locked up and the UK pays for his room and meals.
Letting him go, however, leads us to his leaders.

The obviuos answer is YEAH "lock him up throw away the key" but, what will that accomplish? Lets find his friends first and then lock him up for speeding or jay walking. I'm sure that the UK can find a reason :-)

On the surface it looks weak but, is the answer to tough questions ever THAT obvious. This dude cant buy a match without being watched.
    He's not blowing up ANYTHING.
His former friends will try to avoid him but, as he cant get a job or a loan. He will try to contact his former buddies and then we'll watch them too and thier friends. It sucks, I know , but the UK CANT be that STUPID. I have faith that they have a plan much more cunning than I described
    OR
    They are pretty nieve?
