Obama and the Democrats feeling the heat over healthcare reform from conservatives and independents

The Democrats are just not listening to average people on issues

Over the past few months, President Obama has been under heavy scrutiny from the right and his poll numbers have slid down to the 50% range. Conservatives are energized more than ever and are showing the president that he cannot simply get what he wants. Obama will be feeling the heat from Republicans and Independents over the month of September as he attempts to get healthcare reform through Congress. The country is divided over the Democratic proposals, with most against the choices on the table. Because of this, Obama has scheduled a speech to a joint session of Congress to try and take control of the situation again.

Democrats need to tread carefully with how they vote in the next few weeks on healthcare reform legislation. A new Gallup poll shows that 64% of voters say that how a member of Congress votes on the healthcare reform legislation will be a major factor in their vote next November, which is a staggering high number, which shows just how much, is at stake. Among the number of people who are opposed to the healthcare plan a whopping 82% say the vote is important, signaling to many in swing districts that their seats could be in danger. Americans do not want a larger government, increased debt, and rationing of care. They also do not want a strictly Democratic bill to come out of Congress. If Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid ram the bill through both houses of Congress, like they have before, than Democrats will pay next year during the midterm elections. Nancy Pelosi won’t lose her seat in Congress because she is from San Francisco, the liberal capital of the country and her district is gerrymandered to protect her, but she may lose her Speakership because of discontent within the party. Harry Reid is also up for reelection and it does not look like Nevada wants to return him, so that sniveling little weasel may be voted out too.

Congress, at least many of them, appears not to have learned their lesson from these town hall meetings this past month. Many display arrogance, like Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY), saying that it is “beneath” her to hold town halls. Or Congressman Eric Massa (D-NY) who said that he will “vote against the interest of my district.” Or Congressman Baron Hill (D-IN) who stated that “This is my town hall meeting.” These people simply do not get it. They feel that they are entitled and that the people, all of us, are not paying attention. I would not be surprised to see a wave of anti-incumbent sentiment next year, at all levels. Not just Democrats, but Republicans too. The GOP will benefit since most officeholders are Democrats, but it will be a sweeping change. People have woken up and don’t like what they see from the elected officials. President Obama would be advised to forgo his liberal agenda, and try governing from the middle. Unite us, instead of divide us. If not, we will fire you from your jobs.

Here is a clip of Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) calling the opponents of healthcare reform "those people" and said it is "beneath" her. I think its time for this old windbag to get the boot.
