These people care about their country and what is happening, they are not racists
The new apparent talking point for the left is that racism is the reason that people are opposed to President Obama and the policies that the Democrats are promoting. A variety of Democrats liberals have claimed this as fact in recent days including New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, Washington Post columnist Colbert King, New York Congressman Charles Rangel, Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson, DNC Chairman Tim Kaine, and just yesterday former President Jimmy Carter. Carter said “I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American." Now to be fair to Mr. Obama, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that the President does not think his opponents are motivated by race. However, that has not stopped some Democrats from claiming that it is.
This marks a new disturbing tactic by those on the left to demonize opponents of President Obama. In recent weeks, conservatives and independents have become increasingly vocal against the policies of the government and have shown it at town hall meetings and Tea Party protests. Just last week, Republican Congressman Joe Wilson yelled “You Lie!” at President Obama during his address to Congress on healthcare. Because of the new outspoken nature of those opposed to liberalism and big government, Democrats seem to be staking out the position that those who have reservations about Mr. Obama and his policies are somehow racists. Well they are just plain wrong. Those who are against President Obama and what he stands for are against him because of ideology. I will admit that a small minority of people has racist tendencies, but the vast majority of people are against the president because what he is trying to accomplish policy wise, not against his skin color.
I find it insulting that those on the left are stooping to this level. Why can people not oppose an African American politician because of his policies? People oppose white politicians all the time and no one gives it a second though, so why should we now? Mr. Obama is not entitled to a free pass or some sort of immunity from criticism just because of his skin color. He is the President of the United States and he has to answer to the people. Race has nothing to do with the matter and those who suggest that it does are in fact trying to distract average people from the real issues at hand. The reason that I write this column, people show up at rallies, pundits are on TV, and town halls have become explosive is because we are not happy with what President Obama is doing on many issues. It is actually quite simple. For Jimmy Carter, one of the worst Presidents our country has EVER had, to suggest that racism is a motivator is ignorant.
People, for the first time in years, are becoming more passionate and opinionated about issues because it impacts them. Mr. Obama is not the man above the fray, as he tried to make himself out to be. His approval ratings are somewhere around 50%, indicating that a large chunk of people are not happy with his job performance. Even after Mr. Obama gave his healthcare speech last week, and Democrats were hailing it as a game changer, people are still not for it. A Rasmussen Poll from yesterday shows that 55% of the country is opposed to Mr. Obama’s and the Democrats plan for healthcare reform and only 42% approve of it. Face it liberals, America is not the racist society it once was. We have moved beyond the days of the 1960’s and our country elected Barack Obama by a pretty healthy margin last year. Policy and ideology is what motivates people to oppose the President, not race and bigotry.

Everyone knows Joe Wilson is a racist and FOX news can show all the ACORN videos they want. The fact of the matter is they are being disingenuous. Come on, fair and balanced...

I would suggest referring to President Obama as President Obama throughout the whole article. I feel it is a bit disrespectful to refer to him as Mr. Obama. The President is President. You can always use first and last name and leave out President. Such as Bill Clinton, or George W. Bush. But you don't say Mr. Clinton, or Mr. Bush. It's (Former) President Clinton and (Former) President Bush.
Plus switching between the two just reads weird.
Anyway, pleasure to read. This isn't about race. I love how there's never a defense when someone says you're being racist. All you can say is no you're not, and they just keep saying you are. It's a low blow, and very dirty politics.

FOX news isn't the one who made those ACORN videos, they are just playing them. I mean the Senate cut funding to ACORN for a reason, they were aiding people in illegal activities, mainly the PROSTITUTION of ILLEGAL ALIEN UNDERAGE GIRLS. That's not a racist either.
People need to quit throwing around the race card. That's like a last ditch effort for those who don't have a legitimate argument to defend themselves.
