Democratic recklessness: Passing the healthcare reform bill without reading it

You want to trust your healthcare to that thing in the picture? I don't think so.

While the healthcare battle is raging on publicly in Washington, the Democrats are battling each other in private, hoping to get the bill passed. The moderates of the party are keeping the liberal majority from running the show, by passing whatever they want. This is driving the liberals mad, since they have such a clear majority in both houses of Congress. The Senate and the House of Representatives are taking two different approaches to tackling the healthcare bill, although neither one has been successful so far.

The House of Representatives is where most of the fighting has taken place. Healthcare reform has only one more committee to pass, before it would be voted on by all the members. That committee is the Energy and Commerce Committee, which is chaired by one of the most liberal members of Congress, Henry Waxman. The Blue Dog coalition of Democrats, who are the fiscally conservative ones, hold 7 seats on the committee, and when combined with the Republicans, they hold the majority. Waxman cannot get the liberal bill through because of this, which has prompted the Democratic caucus to go crazy. According to reports, in closed door meetings, the members have been threatened, yelled at, and lobbied to no end to support the bill. So far, those men and women have held their ground. If the bill is not reformed to their liking, the 52 member Blue Dog coalition will vote with Republicans and defeat the bill. The liberal firebrands in the House, like Maxine Waters of California, are threatening members with liberal primary challengers in order to get rid of them.

Oh, and my favorite quote of the week is from House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers a liberal Democrat who said “What good is reading a bill if it is a 1,000 pages long?” Well this is one of the most important pieces of legislation in decades that would change our healthcare system.  This is what Democrats are like; they are enacting this leftist agenda, without reading the bills! There should be outrage in the streets at this! The group Let Freedom Ring has been asking all members of Congress to do sign a pledge to do two things. The first is to read the healthcare bill and the second is to allow the bill to be available on the Internet for 72 hours. That’s all the pledge says. So far 96 legislators in the House and Senate have signed it, all Republican. Not one Democrat has pledged to read this bill! Is something wrong with that picture?! I know the liberals say; well the group asking is a conservative one. Yes it is, but it is a card that says two things and you can’t sign it because why? It does not matter about the group’s leanings, it matters about knowing and understanding what you plan on doing to this country. Just a side note, the Democrats can only thank themselves for this mess because they took back the House with these moderate members. They reaped what they sowed, if they wanted to enact their radical agenda effortlessly, they should have ran liberal candidates.

The Senate is tamer, because bipartisan work is actually being done. The Finance Committee has been meeting for the past few weeks and 3 Democrats and 3 Republicans are trying to work out a deal that is acceptable to both sides. Liberal senators are not happy with the bipartisan effort and want the committee to just vote. While some may want to do that, the Senate need 60 votes to pass the bill, and I can guarantee you that some of the moderate ones will not support a radical bill.

With the congressional recess beginning in the next few days, both sides are waging a battle for and against healthcare. The Senate is being slow and deliberative, because they have to, and the House is trying to be rash in passing the bill. Americans can thank the Blue Dog coalition for saving this country, so far anyway, from this horrible healthcare bill that needs to be defeated. I hope that they stick to their guns and that Nancy Pelosi sticks to hers, which will force an impasse. Public opinion is now firmly against this plan and public opinion is swinging against Democrats. President Obama has overexposed himself on the healthcare issue and is not effective anymore due to that. The battle over this liberal healthcare bill will be decided in the coming weeks. Expect to see ad after ad on TV and hearing about all the time. It is important that people become aware of how awful this bill is and call their congressman and senator over the month, visit their office, hold peaceful rallies, write letters, and anything they can think of to beat back this bill.

    Here are the facts:

Democrats intentionally left gaping loopholes in the healthcare bill that will allow illegal immigrants to receive taxpayer-funded benefits.

The bill contains no verification mechanism to ensure that illegal immigrants do not apply for benefits. In fact, Democrats rejected an amendment to close this loophole

The bill leaves open the possibility that if one citizen (anchor baby) family member is eligible for affordability credits, then the whole family including illegal immigrant family members, are also eligible for the credits.

Ranking Member Lamar Smith said,“The proposed healthcare scheme could force the American people to pay for the health care of illegal immigrants".

That's the part, nobody wants to talk about, if American citizens are allowed to receive these benefits, so will every illegal immigrant that applies. Why can't our representatives represent the interests of Americans?

    It really baffles me.

Oh please MadMommy. You sound like a fanatical soccer mom that got hit in the head with too many soccer balls. Everyone knows you do nothing but eat bonbons and watch Oprah all day long, so why the hell do you care if you have to pay a few more dollars each month for people who do jobs your fat, lazy behind would never dream of.

Why is it that libs can do nothing but use inflammatory language instead of have healthy, informed debates on the things they disagree with? Grow up and read the bill if you disagree. Then come back and we'll discuss eating bonbons, which may not be a right in America in ObamaCare's future because it makes people fat. We can no longer have fat Americans in Obama's world cuz we can no longer afford to treat them under ObamaCare.

Oh yeah. I'm sure Republicans read every word of it before voting against it.

Actually Sergio, the bill was not voted on yet. I was pointing out that the Democrats would not pledge to read it, wheras a good number of Republicans were pledging to.

Also, I'd just like to mention that being a Birther isn't exclusively a Republican thing. I know that he wasn't born in the US (born in Mumbaso City, Kinyya, of course), but I still like his (and especially VP Biden's!) policies.

Don't be a racist Pat: just like there are Republicans who are not Birthers, there are Democrats who are, and we deserve respect too.

And your stupidity spreads like a California wildfire. I don't know how you can manage to voice your asinine opinion on such a regular basis. Drop off the face of the Earth, please.

They cut out 10% of the cost. They are doing such a wonderful job, our deficit will only be 2 trillion. The left cannot grasp the fact that the problem with socialism is pretty soon you run out of other peoples money to spend. Every great nation comes to an end, Obama is simply ensuring ours will happen sooner than expected. What can you expect from the man who swore to the american people he would not raise taxes. Oh yea, the biggest deficit in the history of our nation.

Oh Pat, don't be disingenuous. You know what i meant. Putting that aside, even if they have not voted on it yet, you really believe those Republicans are going to read the entire bill? I am usually not presumptuous, but i know which way Republicans are going to vote on nationalized healthcare and so do you. The same way they always do. They will side with the private insurance companies and corporate douche bags they live to protect. Maybe the Democrats are not going to read the bill and shame on them for it, but neither are the Republicans and since when has a pledge from Republicans been worth anything? We will find weapons of mass destruction/We will be greeted as liberators/The United States does not torture/Saddam bought nuclear materials from Africa etc etc....ALL REPUBLICAN PLEDGES.ALL LIES.

I'm seeing a pattern in this comment thread. I see Conservatives stating their opinions in a civil manner, while on the other hand, I see Liberals calling people names, and being disrespectful to those who don't agree with their views.

Please spare us your sob story. Civility! HAH! You should see the other 'civil' remarks Republicans have made on the other posts.

Democratic recklessness? And you think Republicans are not doing exactly what the Democrats are doing? Whatever that is! Take a breath and figure out just what's going on before jumping off the cliff! There is an explanation.
