The 'Occupy' protests (Wall Street, Denver, San Francisco, etc) are being compared in the mainstream media to tea party events. Journalists and bloggers had to dig deep to make the comparison, since there isn’t one. Below is a list of major ways the two movements differ.
Tea Party events get legal permits for gatherings.
The 'Occupy' protesters are camping out illegally on public lands, blocking entrances to private businesses, and creating unsanitary conditions.
Tea Party events clean up after themselves.
The 'Occupy' protests defecate on police cars, have to be removed from public parks for cleanup because they don’t do it themselves. They hurtle bottles and turn over trash baskets.
Tea Party participants show up for events on their own.
The 'Occupy' movement busses in people who don’t even know what they are protesting against.
The only literature passed out at tea party events is the constitution of the United States.
At 'Occupy' events, they pass out information about what to do if you are arrested, or tear gassed.
Tea Party events invite the police to their events.
Police show up for 'Occupy' events in riot gear because the crowds get out of control.
At Tea Party events, patriotic songs are sung.
At 'Occupy' events, slurs on people who make “too much” money are screamed, and local merchants who don’t allow their private toilets to be used by protesters are threatened.
Tea party rallies are full of home made signs. True grass roots events.
'Occupy' signs are mass produced. Events being sponsored by George Soros and unions.
The Tea Oarty movement wants the United States to get back on track with smaller government, less regulation, and lower taxes for all. Constitutionally.
Occupy Wall Street wants the 1% to pay the way of the other 99% (of which the 1% of top earners in the country already pay 40% of the tax bill).
Members of the Tea Party want to pay their way and get what they work for.
One of the main demands from the 'Occupy' movements is to get their student (college) loans “forgiven.” They want a free ride.
Tea Party attendees show up because they want to.
A lot of 'Occupy' protesters are getting paid (note: San Francisco).
Both of these movements are driven by anger, both are misunderstood by the mainstream media, and both should be watched carefully. The 'Occupy' events should be watched because of the danger lurking under the surface, and the Tea Party events because they are making a difference in Washington D.C.
