Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX, Dallas) issued the following statement on Friday, March 26 in response to the week's events regarding the passage of the ObamaCare bill.
"Before I get on the plane this morning heading back home to Texas and – thankfully – away from Washington DC, I wanted to write you this quick note about recent events in Congress.
"As Americans, our freedoms took a setback this week with the misguided passage of ObamaCare by the Democrats in Congress. Led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the House, Democrats passed this monstrosity of a bill despite the fact that it was widely opposed by the American public and every Republican Member of Congress. Even more unfortunate, I believe most of the Democrats who voted for it neither fully understood the bill nor thought too much about what it will do when it is completely implemented. Instead, most Democrats cut their deals with the Speaker for political and parochial reasons.
"The Democrats and Nancy Pelosi now own the final outcome of their health care bill. I will fight to hold them accountable.
"Democrats’ claims about ObamaCare were wildly exaggerated. Here are just a few of the statements made that will come back to haunt them:
*“Not one dime will be added to the deficit” – even though the bill spends $2.6 trillion in the first ten years.
*“Quality of health care will actually improve” – even though cuts in Medicare will mean fewer health care services provided to the elderly – making rationing of health care more common.
*“You’ll be able to keep your own doctor” – even though the federal government is now in charge of the terms of every health care plan that will exist in America.
*“The health care bill will create new jobs” – even though two major manufacturers have already announced possible job cuts due to the bill’s added costs placed on employers.
"Rest assured that I will continue to do battle with this outrageous expansion of federal power at the expense of quality health care, jobs and investment in our economy. I will join other Republicans in Congress to fight this bill’s implementation in committee, on the House floor and – most especially – in a dozens of congressional campaigns across the country."

..."two major manufacturers have already announced possible job cuts due to the bills added costs placed on employers."
How so? Do these "major" manufacturers not already provide health insurance to employees?
Will these job cuts reduce productivity? Will demand for their product not be met as a result? If so, wouldn't this create an opportunity for others to enter into their industries?
Don't they now get a tax credit for providing healthcare?
I don't understand how the bill increases costs - does anyone know the answer?
*Youll be able to keep your own doctor even though the federal government is now in charge of the terms of every health care plan that will exist in America."
The gov has no intention on controlling that aspect of healthcare - in fact, the bill aims to alleviate that very problem which DOES NOW limit a person to Dr's within a particular network. The author is playing politics. The Dems wanted a public option because it would ENSURE that the current practice of limiting options would be eliminated.
*Not one dime will be added to the deficit even though the bill spends $2.6 trillion in the first ten years."
He left out the revenues. According to the CBO, the bill will reduce the budget overall - the bill may add $2.6 trillion in costs, but the revenues will exceed the costs by $1.3 trillion and net an overall budget reduction.
*Quality of health care will actually improve even though cuts in Medicare will mean fewer health care services provided to the elderly making rationing of health care more common."
The same scare tactic by the republicans when medicare was passed. Insurance co's NOW ration care for all, including the elderly.
Why didn't republicans "battle with this outrageous expansion of federal power" - this being the Bush administration - that created the mess that we are in now?
Sessions represents more people without health insurance than any other Republican in Congress.
