The Southwest Dallas Republican Club is holding a forum for candidates seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. House District 30 on Tuesday, February 9. The event will be held at the Olive Garden at Cockrell Hill Rd. and I-20 in Duncanville. Attendees should ask to be seated in the separate meeting room. Attendees can order food and socialize beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the forum begins at 7:00 p.m. It is not necessary to order food to attend. The event serves as the February general meeting for the group.

Among the candidates scheduled to attend are Charles Lingerfelt and Sheldon Goldstein. A representative for Pastor Stephen Broden will attend as well. Each of the candidates is seeking the Republican nomination to face incumbent Democrat Eddie Bernice Johnson, a widely controversial liberal who has been named one of Texas' worst legislators by Texas Monthly.

He has served as in education as a teacher, coach, and principal, and founded an outreach to young people with chemical dependencies. He has been endorsed by the Dallas County Republican Assembly.

Sheldon Goldstein is a successful attorney in the Uptown district of Dallas. He has been active with a number of charities and social causes. The Republican activist is also an entrepreneur, starting several small businesses. He has been endorsed by Dallas County Commissioner Mike Cantrell.

Pastor Stephen Broden is a long time Republican activist and recipient of the Ronald Reagan Gold Medal Award in 2005. He was named "Champion of the Republican Party” by the NRCC Business Advisory Council and received Congressional Medals of Distinction in both 2007 and 2008 “in recognition of outstanding meritorious service” by the NRCC. He has also appeared on The Glenn Beck Show and Huckabee.
