Reverend Jeremiah

Nice timing Jeremiah!…

The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is back in the news. And, his impeccable sense of timing must have caused considerable embarrassment at the White House. His cringe-inducing comments that, "Obama is owned by the Jews" and "Them Jews aren't going to let me speak to him" was clearly most inauspicious for President Obama, occurring as it did on the same day a neo-Nazi, white supremacist whack-job murdered a security guard at the national Holocaust Memorial.

Given his well documented, vitriolic, and racist prior sermonizing, somehow, I don't think Wright's use of the word "Jews" in his latest outburst was used in a flattering light.

Jeremiah Wright's latest outburst is a painful reminder that he was not only Barack Obama's long time pastor but also, his "spiritual advisor." The incident raises one of the most endearing mysteries of the 2008 election: how is it that a man who clearly ratified Jeremiah Wright's odious views, by sitting in his church for twenty unbroken years, have been elected president of the United States? Undoubtedly, this will be a fascinating question examined in depth by historians.

Though it is not considered a polite topic of discussion in the mainstream media, Jeremiah Wright and James Van Brunn share this much in common: they both operated and preached on the ideological fringe of American society. Brunn was an advocate of white supremacy; Jeremiah Wright, an outspoken proselytizer of black liberation theology.

Despite White House attempts to muzzle him, I don't think we have heard the last from Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Still going after this line? Even though the rest of us moved on long ago? the President has already renounced Wright, he doesn't need to keep doing it. I dare say everyone in politics has past connections that aren't pretty.

It's not that anyone is "still going after this"... it's that it keeps coming up. Nobody stuck a microphone in front of Wright and encouraged him to say something incredibly insensitive and racist. He did that all by himself. Also note the strong connection that Wright holds to Obama. Yes, Barry 'renounced' his ties to Wright when it was politically expedient for him to do so. But, like many other things Obama has said (his opposition to same-sex marriage, for example) nobody believes him on this issue. And using the argument "everybody is doing it" doesn't work. The last time I recall anything similar to this happened, was when Trent Lott was hounded out of office by the media. The same media lapdogs now sit by waiting for Obama to toss them a bone.
