Today in Sedgwick County, Kansas, the jury selection began for Dr. George Tiller, a controversial abortion doctor who faces 19 misdemeanor charges. In a week, the first testimony will be heard regarding the numerous illegal financial activities that Dr. Tiller is suspected of undertaking. If found guilty, Dr. Tiller could be incarcerated for at most one year and fined $2,500 for each charge.
Many pro-life advocates believe that Dr. Tiller should be charged with much more serious crimes for allegedly ignoring Kansas state law in performing late-term abortions. The pro-lifers may have a case according to research and patient testimony by Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly. He contends that Dr. Tiller performed abortions after fetuses were 22 weeks old because of the mothers' “temporary depression.” Such an action would be illegal under Kansas law as the only reason allowed for an abortion post-22 weeks is “irreversible impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman.” O’Reilly also contends that Dr. Tiller failed to report the rapes of some abortion patients to the authorities. As I reported earlier, the prospective Secretary of Health and Human Services has a troubling association with Dr. Tiller.
For some peculiar reason, the New York Times did not report on the start of Dr. Tiller’s trial today. The Times did however print an editorial months ago calling Dr. Tiller a “hero” saying he should be “honored” for performing abortions.
Whatever the outcome of the trial is, one can only hope that justice is served for both Dr. Tiller and the unborn.

Hi Sean, You handled this very tough reporting issue well. I applaud your insight into the New Youk Times, the mouthpiece for the democratic party on paper. I also wonder why they are silent on a topic the democratic party forwards as well as champions. Too bad.
