Obama pronounces Navy Corpsman as 'Corpse-man'

© 2010 – Commentary

He was educated at prestigious universities such as Columbia and Harvard Law School. He has written several readable and eloquent books. He has taught many classes on constitutional law and related subjects. However, for some reason President Barack Obama does not know how to correctly pronounce the word “Corpsman” – the medical personnel of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

During a speech Thursday at the National Prayer Breakfast, Obama referred to a servicemember serving in Haiti as a “Corpse-man” – pronouncing the silent p in Corpsman.

Now some could say this was a simple mistake by the President during a speech. (After all, the great orator Martin Luther King, Jr. got Cs in some speech classes in college.) But when have you ever heard someone call the Marine Corps – the Marine Corpse? It’s spelled almost exactly the same way as Corpsman.

Mr. President, it is Corpsman that have valiantly earned countless Medal of Honor citations throughout this country’s many wars – not Corpse-man.

If pronouncing Corpsman as Corpse-man doesn’t show that Obama is an outsider to military culture or an elitist, I don’t know what does.

This is shocking. We had a kid in my tech school make the same mistake. Needless to say, we made fun of him relentlessly. At least the kid wasn't the commander in chief.

I believe Obama is not cutting any Defense budget.

On the same logic; did Bush's lack of ability to say the word "nuc-klear" accurately reflect his environmental policy

Just imagine if George Bush had done that! It would all over the news and Saturday Night Live would already be preparing a skit. But Obama says it and it's "hush hush" -- you hardly hear about it. The media treats him with kid gloves becausde he's 1/2 black.

Perhaps you should check your own use of the English language....i.e. your spelling of Military Personel. (FYI it is spelled Personnel). The irony!

Just think how Palin would be judged for a similar mistake-(3 or 4 times)only a biased liberal (redundant I know) would deny it (straight faced no doubt)

Hell, you *still* hear the occasional reference to Dan Quayle writing "potatoe" on that school chalkboard. Were it not for the alternative media, you'd hear nothing about Obama's slip up. Just the usual double standard from the mainstream press.

For those of you defending this pathetic excuse for a president, I'm going to count to three and then snap my fingers. You will feel awake and refreshed.
