Mustard seed faith with roots in Baltimore - Part II

So the Lord said, 'If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you.'  Luke 17:6 NKJV

We hear this scripture quoted often.  Sometimes, we even hear it misquoted.  Have you ever wondered what it really means to have mustard seed faith?  This article is the second of a three-part interview with the three men (Mark David Williams, Jerome "Ro" Brooks, and Matondo) whose collective, artistic genius is the impetus behind A Last Heroes Production's first faith-based film, Mustard Seed: The Movie.  The film project explores the meaning of faith.

LP: Who are you and what is your connection to Mustard Seed:  The Movie?

RB: My name is Jerome “Ro” Brooks, and I am an actor and entrepreneur. Mustard Seed:  The Movie will be my directorial debut.  I play the father in the film.  I am also one of the directors and producers of the film.

LP:  What is the message you hope people will gain by watching the movie?

RB:  Mustard Seed is a movie about one’s faith. It’s easy to say that you have faith and that you believe in God when life is great, but when you are faced with adversity and your back is up against the wall and no one seems to be there for you is when you’ll be tested. Mustard Seed is about a hardworking man, a loving husband and father who is suddenly hit with bad times. He feels God has let him down and therefore he must fix things to how they once were, while denouncing Jesus, his Lord and Savior. His wife continues to love him unconditionally and sticks beside him because she has faith and will do whatever she has to do to convince her husband to regain his faith and to trust in God.

LP:  What is the significance of this film project?

RB:  The mission of the film, Mustard Seed, is to shine light on Jesus Christ by telling people about him and what He has done and can do for you. It’s also an inspirational message saying, NEVER GIVE UP. People will be able to get a lot out of this story. For instance, one might find themselves drawn to the connection between the husband and his wife - stick by your mate through thick and thin. We also hope to help save some souls. I have a great life because of Jesus, and I wanted to share my secret so that others could have a great life in Jesus, too.

LP:  Why did you choose a documentary format for this film?

RB:  To me, stories like this one are best told in a drama setting because of the message. I wouldn’t want anyone to walk away from this film laughing - thinking that it’s just a movie, just entertainment. Don’t get me wrong.  There are some funny parts in the film, but they are used to balance out the emotional scenes. The documentary just adds realism and truth to the story. These are real people with real testimonies. Some which are homeless and left abandoned, but by the grace of God they remain to have faith the size of a mustard seed.

LP:  What is the production timeline for this project?

RB:  We are in the infant stages with this project. We need funding to turn this awesome screen play into a film. That is our dream and goal. We expect to finish post production by late third quarter and hopefully be in theaters by the first quarter of 2012.

LP:  What impact will this film project have on Baltimore and the nation?

RB:  We hope to make a World Wide impact with Mustard Seed, not just in Baltimore. We want people to understand that God doesn’t put anything on you that you can’t handle and that without a test there would be no testimony. Everything you go through makes you a better and stronger person. Thank God.

LP:  How can people support this film project?

RB:  People can help support us by making a monetary donation to www.mustardseedthemovie.com.  Any donation will help.  We also need locations to shoot the film.

LP:  What is A Last Heroes Production?

RB:   A Last Heroes Production is a company we [Mark D. Williams, Matondo and I] created for our joint projects, and I am proud to say that Mustard Seed is our first partnership.
