Ladies and Gentlemen… Start your Engines! Since 1998, Speed dating has been attracting many people because it's an exciting, fast and pressure free way to meet other singles. It has quickly become the hottest dating movement in the United States, and continues to spread quickly to the rest of the world. In just one evening, speedy singles meet 10-15 other singles and engage in brief one-on-one “dates”. The number of singles and the “date” time limit at each event can vary, but the general idea is the same for all of them: find a mate with a quick date.
The process for speed dating is uniform and simple: Once a speed dating location is found in the area, interested members register in advance to ensure the male-to-female ratio is equal.
At the event location, the room is filled with “tables for two,” and each table is marked with a letter or number. Ladies and gents are paired up with their first “date” and generally allowed between 3 to 8 minutes to get to know each other. At the end of the time, they move on to the next member.
Each member is equipped with a dating card, where notes can be taken for each ‘date’, including a box to check, or a place to write down a name of the person one would like to see again. When love shows itself at first meeting, many speed dating services allow members to log onto their web site and enter the names of those who made the cut. When two singles “match up” after submitting their information, the dating service provides the contact information to both parties so they can arrange a second meeting.One of the most appealing aspects of this process is the lack of rejection or uncomfortable silences over awkward dinners.
Some might find the process intimidating, but most people find that it’s an efficient way to meet new people. The key is to relax, be prepared, and have a great time.

The Do's and Don'ts of Speed Dating:
Do:
· Work out some good questions before turning up
· Dress well - You only get one chance to make a first impression.
· Take a friend for support if it's your first time
· Remember you're only aiming for a 2nd date - not marriage. So don't make it a bigger deal in your head than it really is
· Admit your fears - it can be endearing if you tell your partner it's your first time. If that's the only thing that comes into your head in the conversation, feel free to share it. However if it's your 37th time - it won't work!
Don't:
· Date with your friend sitting next to you - the temptation to listen in and chat with them will be a distraction. And your partners will not thank you for it.
· Get drunk! No matter how amusing you think you are - you aren’t!
· Expect them to do the work - There's 2 people sitting at the table. You need to hold up your end of the conversation - even if you decided before you sat down that it wasn't going anywhere
· Be nasty - Even if you feel like they're doing it to you, you never know who their friends are. The gorgeous guy or girl you meet 3 dates later may well be their best friend - and they will compare notes on you.
Compare numbers of matches with your friends - You and your friends are different. Dating is not a popularity contest. You're better off with a handful of right dates than 100 wrong ones. Be glad that you haven't wasted your time with those you don't get a match with.
