What do women love about 'The Peanuts' comic strip guys?

Some of the Chicago Relationships Examiner's Peanuts collection

In the spirit of the Comic-Con International celebration, the Chicago Relationships Examiner is sharing advice for the fellas about why the guys from "The Peanuts" are attractive to the ladies.

Charlie Brown: You may have thought Charlie Brown had low self-esteem, but he had a little bit of arrogance to him, too. Who else would carry around a suitcase "in case I get a lot of Valentines, I want to have something to carry them in"? And no matter how many times he panicked and got his hand stuck in the door, he always tried to get with the Little Red-Haired Girl. He went after the girl he liked without her knowing he was making a fool of himself in the process.

Franklin: He was athletic (baseball and swimming), a musician (played the guitar) and Lucy's bossiness did not phase him. He was always cool under pressure and never seemed to be angry or worried. He could fit into a diverse crowd without feeling ostracized. He was also sympathetic to a woman's needs. Peppermint Patty started crying because of shoes she was required to wear in school, and Franklin said, "All I know is any rule that makes a little girl cry has to be a bad rule." No good man likes to see a woman cry.

Linus: He hated when Sally would embarrass him in public and call him her "Sweet Baboo," but he was the epitome of romance for his teacher. He was smitten with her just for asking him to dust off chalkboard erasers and didn't have a problem doing chores. For the woman he loved, helping her was a pleasure, not a problem.

Pigpen: Nobody ever knew where all the dust and dirt came from, but that didn't stop him from doing what he wanted to do. A woman can handle a man getting a little dirty sometimes as long as he can get the job done, and he always seemed to be in good spirit. While the germophobics like Violet may not be into this kind of guy, there's always that group of women who can't tolerate the metrosexual guy. They want men who aren't afraid to get a little dirty.

Schroder: Lucy was so aggressive, and Schroeder kept her in her place. She could try to boss him around all she wanted, but what really kept her interested was his ability to play hard to get. She'd scream at him while he played his piano and he'd tumble away, but for whatever strange reason, he never made her leave. There was always a little hate-to-love-her thing going on between those two. He even had words of wisdom to share on "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown," "Sometimes if you really like someone, a homemade Valentine is very special."

Chicago Comic-Con will be happening from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22. Click here for details.

I like this but what about snoopy and the little bird?

Hi Uku, thanks for dropping by. Simple answer: Woodstock and Snoopy are not men. When girls start dating guys that are like dogs (well, some already have) and birds, then we REALLY have a problem. I kept the entry to "humans" only. Plus we don't know much about Woodstock outside of being Snoopy's friend. Clearly Joe Cool (Snoopy's alter-ego) has swagger and Snoopy is the first one on the dance floor. We're both dog lovers so a dog kiss on the cheek is great, but we're in a world of trouble if that's what women want.

Linus and Franklin are still my faves of the Peanut strip ;-) This is one of the most 'groovy-fun' articles I've seen in a long time. Thanks for the memories.

Hi Lynn, Always a pleasure to "hear" from you. I do like Linus and Franklin was cool, but I'm 99.9% partial to Mr. Charlie Brown. He was usually in a melancholy mood, but he had a heart of gold.
