Reiki can help reduce the stress level in pre and post operative surgeries. By working on a patient who is about to have surgery, and continuing to send Reiki during and after surgery, Reiki is able to produce a much calmer patient and promote faster recovery.
Reiki’s healing effects helped a colleague endure and recuperate from major back surgery earlier this year. Prior to surgery the client had hands –on and remote Reiki sessions. She continued to receive Reiki during and after surgery.
The day after her surgery, the practitioner visited the hospital and found her weak but in good spirits. The surgery lasted 6 ½ hours and she did not need a blood transfusion. 40% of her blood was recycled and the surgery was successful. The surgeon straightened one vertebra 70% and the other 80% using pins to straighten the spine to relieve the pressure from her spinal cord.
She stated that she could feel heat from the Reiki practitioner’s hands as they were held several inches over her head. She dozed off and on during the Reiki session and as nurses came in to check on her. The Reiki session ended after an hour as a nurse came in to check her vital signs. The nurse noted that her blood pressure had dropped 10 points since her last check (this happed during the Reiki session).
The next day, the doctors were amazed at her recovery and were about to release her from the hospital. They had never seen anyone recover so quickly. Reiki helped to alleviate stress, reduce blood pressure, and allow the patient to leave the hospital only 3 days after surgery.
