Last night Ricky Gervais had to share some truths by posing on the red carpet for the U.S. Premiere of "The Invention of Lying" with co-star Jennifer Garner. After a moment of signing autographs for fans lined up on Hollywood Blvd for the premiere that was held at the Grauman's Chinese Theater, Garner surprised Gervais and girlfriend Jane Fallon. Garner came behind one of the movie posters and tried to grab Gervais from behind.
As the event photographers captured the moment, they started yelling for Jennifer and Ricky to pose together as Jane looked on. It was a funny sight as Gervais was eating up all the attention. While posing and hearing the photographers yelling, Ricky shouted back, "Shut up! Shut up!" as he kept laughing.
The film takes place in an alternate reality in which lies and lying does not exist. Everyone tells the truth includling politicians and everyday people without knowing what the consequences are. Mark Bellison played by Ricky Gervais develops the ability to lie and experiences the rewards of dishonesty.
Back on the carpet, one photographer said that it felt like deja vu because he just saw the majority of the actors at the Emmy Awards other than Jennifer Garner. Garner is such a sport with the photographers as she ensured to try and look at as many cameras as possible. She definitely knows how to give what the red carpet photographers want including her poses. On the other hand Nikki Reed couldn't take a moment to pose for the lens. One photog asked, "Nikki can you please come back for a shot." She politely said, "Not this time." Other photographers were quick to point out, "Then why walk the carpet?" Even as Matthew Perry came near the start of the film screening, he took the time to pose. Even Garner took a moment to pose and greet fans across the way on Hollywood Blvd. Boo hoo to Reed.
Overheard on the carpet: A photographer asked actor John Hodgman who plays a "PC" in the Apple commercial if he uses a PC or Apple. Hodgman replies, "I've been a Mac. Had one since 1984."
"The Invention of Lying" opens in theaters nationwide on October 2, 2009.
