Ladies and gentleman - grab your cowboy hats, it's RODEO TIME!  Tucson, Arizona welcomes La Fiesta de los Vaqueros (Celebration of the Cowboys) February 20th - 28th, 2010.  1925 marked the beginning of a grand tradition here in Tucson with 2010 celebrating it's 85th year.

Thursday February 25th at 9a.m. the world's longest non-motorized parade hits the streets here in Tucson.  $6/adult and $4/child 12 and under gets you grandstand seating to catch the excitement. 100,000 horses participate in this parade, pulling western themed floats, buggies and carriages. Mexican folk dance and marching bands will dazzle you as well as get you in the spirit for some rodeo fun. The parade route begins at Park Avenue and Ajo Way, heads south to Irvington Road and then west on Irvington to south 6th Avenue.  Expect to enjoy 2 hours of this wild-west inspired parade.

The rodeo events include the expected such as everyone's favorite - bull riding!  Bareback and saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tied down roping and barrel racing will hit the arena as well. What are these events, you ask?  Take a look at the official definitions page  and educate yourself so you are ready to channel your inner cowboy.

Animal lovers, don't despair - the rodeo is a member of the PRCA - Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Tucson Rodeo and PRCA believe that all professional athletes share the spotlight with their animal counterparts. The nature of rodeo demands not only a working relationship between human and livestock but a partnership. All livestock are humanly treated and protected by specific rules and regulations to ensure they are properly cared for and treated.

A full schedule can be found here.

Fellow Tucsonans and visitor's alike, I'll see you at the Rodeo!
