ANTM Le Cycle 13, the petite edition
Wednesday night was the premiere of "America's Next Top Model: Cycle 13" with the casting call for prospective models under 5'7", a height that is much shorter than the industry standard. The group of petite girls was quickly dwindled down to the 14 models that would appear on the new season.
The show was chock full of interesting women including one who broke her foot in a cheer leading competition, one who had been in an abusive relationship, another who had a difficult childhood and spent time in an orphanage, and yet another who felt she was sent by Jesus to "save the world" by being on the show. With this mix of characters, the show will never have a shortage of drama.
There was a photo shoot where the models had to channel their own inner child by recreating childhood looks in a modern way. The key, according to the judges at panel, was to make the person looking at the photograph forget that the models are under 5'7" by stretching their bodies and using their bodies to create the illusion of height. Tyra Banks, Nigel Barker, Chanel Iman and Miss J all agreed that Rae had the best shot of the bunch as an ethereal ballerina in 8 in. heels. The bottom 2 were Bianca, who complained about her makeover, her makeup and her outfit and Lisa, who was brought back into the competition when Amber dropped out for personal reasons. In the end, it was Lisa who was sent home for her lackluster photo shoot and bland personality.
